Default Taxing the Rich..
Why the single minded focus on this?

It's not for the money, because there isn't that much.. It may be to help control politics and the discourse in this country. Which could be attractive from the perspective of hyper wealthy, liberal elites.. Like Nancy Pelosi, for example.. (Net Worth 100 Million Dollars)

But why do the OWS types give a fuck?

What good will it do them? It does nothing to improve their lot.. It does nothing to help them get a job. It does nothing to help them make ends meet.. What in the fuck does the middle class liberal get from this besides the satisfaction that some rich person is less happy than he was before?

And if that's indeed the motivation, what does it say about them and what does it say about letting such a group set US fiscal and tax policy?

I'm in the 30% tax bracket. It irks me when I hear stories of the ultra-rich finding ways to pay a much smaller percentage. That simply isn't equitable. I don't want their taxes to go up however - I want mine to go down. I'm a flat tax guy.

is probably too stupid, but he should remind the public that nObama is a millionaire who's goal is to collect a billion dollars in campaign contributions.

They're too stupid to breathe and are easily led. But they probably won't vote either.

I don't know. Could the case be made that an obscene tax rate over (x) amount would disincentivize people from earning more than that amount, opening up more of the economy to new, small entrepeneurs?

Just spitballing.

Also, I think we'd all acknowledge that great concentrations of wealth in a very few hands can be a danger to liberty...

I think among the elites that, in this case, large concentrations of wealth = political power and threaten them and their well established pals.

But it doesn't explain the main street liberal.. A millionaire is the guy who is going to give you a fucking job..

I don't know. As I've said before, I applaud OWS for taking it to Wall St. I believe Wall Street does some nasty things, and I don't believe the leadership of the largest companies (usually banks) on earth, are all that concerned with the prosperity of the rest of us.

But, I can't get behind the Marxist stuff. It doesn't add up. These people need to get behind Ron Paul, or someone like him...

I think you'll have a hard time making that case.

TAKING the money people have earned....will not 'open up the economy'...IMO.

It will serve as an example, that people only need to work 'so' hard...because anything more than that, will just be taken.

Why strive? Someone who doesn't will just end up with it.

Good point. Very good point.

I suppose if the money didn't go to other people, you could make the case. Like if the money went to infrastructure or something, that improved everyone's standard of living...

Possibly...but I think the bottom line of any type of punishment program aimed at the 'rich'...is that it will not 'fix' anything.

My grandma used to say for 90% of the world....if you took ALL the money, and divided it up equally....that 90% would be right where they are within 5 years.

The broke, deadbeats, and money wasters, would still be broke....and those that had worked hard, would be about where they were before.

I think there is a LOT of truth to that.

Taking the money from someone who's earned it...will just punish them. It won't 'FIX' those that can't control their own actions and spending patterns.

I think that's true, to a large degree. We all know people who can't manage money. People who get an inheritance, and blow it in a year, or whatever.

Personally, I hate greed. I also hate envy.

I have various notions, but no real answers, as of yet.

Thanks for being someone I can have a conversation with, without having to worry about what ideas I might spit out. Discussion is fun.

Discussion is the key to advancement.

I agree that Greed is horrible...as is Envy.

And what I see a lot of these days, is the envious, drooling over the greedy, and wanting to be like them.

THAT is what I see, when I see OWS.

I'd wager that I earn more than most of those OWS protesters. I'd also wager that I spend less on Iphones and such bullshit than they do.

Show me a struggling person, who's busting his ass to 'make it'....and I'm all for helping him.

Show me some punk with a liberal arts degree, tats, long hair, 12 piercings, and holding up a Che sign, while texting on his 500 dollar phone....and I'm not interested in helping.
