Default THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN HAS BEEN HITTING THE SAUCE AGAIN...
We need a "second party" Should the GOP just sit the 2012 election out?

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/12/op...arty.html?_r=1

He complains at length about the opposition party.. How they need to just go away, cast off their base and become something he could vote for and support..

Which, as we all know, is the perfect answer to everything!

Why... That's brilliant. Let's just say fuck everybody and create a new party that believes everything Tom believes... And then we can have some REAL debates!

I agree with everything you both wrote!
See, we have three new members to our new party already!

This was a serious, non-ironic post in the comments section:

Do not be misled by a name. The core of today's Republican Party is the offspring of racist Southern Democrats who accepted Richard Nixon's invitation to join in 1968, to react against the Civil Rights Act of 1965. The essence of ignorant yahoos, they turned over economic policy to runaway lassaiz-faire investment bankers, whose only goal in life is add zeros to the end of the bottom line, regardless of how it's done or who gets hurt. So what if the lives of a few million workers are wrecked in the process? MY Maserati runs just fine!

Over 44 years, whatever might have been left of the party of Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, or Eisenhauer has completely disappeared. No point in bemoaning what is long gone. As Joe Hill said, Don't mourn, organize.

Mr. Friedman's journalistic integrity insists on looking for the "or" of the right to go with the "either" of the Democrats' center-right. In fact, the Democrats are the new moderate conservatives (meet Senator Schumer, for example). What's needed is a revitalized LEFT... call it Occupy for short ... that can revitalize the whole society, from the bottom up! That is whence cometh new thinking for a new age, post carbon, post environmental destruction. Can't find it? My suggestion: look to the women! This is their century, after all. Not a moment too soon! This from a geezer of the now-exhausted male strand who types messages while his daughters demonstrate How to Do It, whatever it may be. These are the people who insist that they are "moderate" and are the ones doing the "compromising." Some people are simply too far gone to save.

hhahahahah.. Yeah, I did read that one in the comments.

They're the ones we should be compromising with.. Funny, right?

I also like how Tom lays out the top issues we should all be agreeing with him on/shaping the party around.. Like there's a bucket filled with human want and societal needs and objectives.. and that's all that is in it.

lol.. What a dork.

I dunno why they let this idiot loose with a column at the NYT.. Never figured it out.

He and Krugman are what pass for deep thought on the left. These people are just not smart enough to deal with.

He's a douche.. I forget if it's The Atlantic or Rolling Stone that just skewer this guy every now and then..

They make fun of his little witticisms.. It's funny.. They're particularly good at fucking with Tom over there.
