Default Is a Progressive Income Tax unConstitutional?
While discussing the Constitutional obligations of the Federal Government in another thread, I read this:

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States.

Impost is another word for tax. So how can some Americans be expected to pay a higher percentage of income tax than others?

Taxes aren't mentioned in the part in bold, imposts were considered something distinct from taxes or they wouldn't have used "Taxes" and then "Imposts" two words later if they meant the same thing.

Every online dictionary I checked has 'tax' as the first definition of impost.

Amendment XVI

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

Me too but everyone is fucking illiterate now.

Why put the same word twice in the first part then leave one out in the second part unless it meant something else to them.

That doesn't address the question I have about Article 1.

.
Because they are not the same thing.....

I love how the powers that be in this country "play" with the standard definition of words.

From my Funk and Wagnells Dictionary "1977"

A tax or customs duty

To classify (imported goods) for the purpose of determining customs duties.

But the word 'duty' has already been used as well.

IN MY OPINION, IT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

A FUNDAMENTAL AMERICAN PRINCIPLE IS THAT

ALL CITIZENS ARE EQUAL BEFORE THE LAW.

THUS, ANY TAXATION SHOULD BE UNIFORM.

IN MY OPINION, ANY INCOME TAX IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

IT ATTACKS ECONOMIC FREEDOM AT ITS ROOT.

IT ATTACKS THE WORK AND THRIFT EITHIC AT ITS HEART.

Right but see

"classify (imported goods) for the purpose of determining customs duties"

To impost a product is to determine the amount of customs duties (

Income tax was unConstitutional until they changed the Constitution in 1913 to make the unConstitutional tax constitutional.
