Default Breaking the "LAW"
http://lewrockwell.com/peters-e/peters-e127.html

'This is – or was – a fundamental tenet of Western (and American) law. It found expression in the old saying – no harm, no foul. That has been upended. Now people who do no harm are routinely judged “guilty” who have committed no foul – no harm – at all. And they resent it – rightly. You are just driving along, in full control of your vehicle, in no way causing or threatening to cause harm to anyone. But you are traveling faster than an arbitrarily decreed number. A cop observes you, not driving dangerously, merely driving faster than legally allowed. He pulls you over with much sturm und drang (usually accompanied by a cant-choked lecture about The Law) culminating in the issuance of a piece of paper ordering you to pay a large sum of money for no reason at all – other than your having “exceeded the posted speed limit.”

It makes you angry. Think about this. Most of us – who are not sociopaths – would not be angry at being caught (and punished) for having done something to harm others. But to be threatened by an armed man (or woman) merely for flouting some arbitrary convention – some “law” – when you know in your heart (and mind) that you were no threat to anyone? That “the law” in question is a technicality at best and an absurdity at worst? That will make any reasonable person very angry indeed.'

Doesn't this kind of thing irritate you?

How can jaywalking be a crime, in and of itself? How can some gov't entity tell me when and where I can cross a street? And punish me if I don't follow the rules?

SPEED LIMITS ARE PRIMARILY REVENUE RAISERS.... AND

HANDY WARRANTS FRO POPPING DRUGGIES.

"OPERATING IN AN UNSAFE MANNER" IS JUST TOO DAMNED BROAD.

SPEED LIMITES SUCK, BUT THEY RESTRAIN COPS AS WELL AS DRIVERS.

TEXAS IS CURRENTLY MOVING TO RAISE SOME SPEED LIMITS.

We elect the individuals who support or permit legislation. It's not quite the tyranny implied here.

And a child hit by a vehicle traveling at 40mph has a 10% chance of survival. Rising to 90%, if hit at 20mph.

People deserve to be safe. In return for their vote, they deserve at least a modicum of consideration and protection.

Speed limits do nothing to increase safety.

You can actually suppress traffic speeds by constructing roads in certain ways, and by adding speed bumps, etc.

Speed limits just give cops an opportunity to harass and steal money from the general public.

I don't think that's the point at all.

And if all such restriction were lifted, one can well imagine the ensuing chaos. And the attendant death toll, as every backward yahoo endeavoured to travel through time. In addition, I don't consider police intervention per se as harassment.

The orderly and predictable flow of traffic is paramount to ensure everyone's safety. Having people on foot darting back and forth creates an unnecessary hazard by altering flow and distracting drivers...or worse- not being seen in time resulting in said jaywalker's death and possibly other drivers and people in the vicinity. You don't drive a car, do ya?
