Default So I'm in the hospital...
And the first nurse we had is telling us all about the vaccines available today for our child and ourselves, so on and so forth, and then she mentions that her grandson is autistic. A little buzzer went off in my head. Then, later, the night nurse is talking to us, and mentions that her son is autistic. That damn buzzer goes off again...

Those in the medical field and their families are probably the most highly vaccinated folks in the country. I would love to see a study done on autism rates in those families...

There is something going on here. Autism is clearly becoming more prevalent...

Yep...I don't think it's vaccinations either, they may play a small role but pollution, chemicals in our foods etc...play a huge role I would think.

No, the definition has become broader. The supposed correlation between vaccines and autism is the work of conspiracy theorists and has long since been debunked.

I agree that the definition is broader and it is better diagnosed today. But that's not the whole story...

The austism spectrum disorders and people who were previously misdiagnosed. It may be slightly higher, but no one can really tell.

This is the work of alarmists.

Don't forgo essential vaccines because of alarmism.

All three of my kids have had their immunizations. I felt the benefits outweighed the risks.

However, there does seem to be a rise in autism in this country.

Well, I won't. But if my new son gets autism because of them, I'm taking a fucking flamethrower to this place...

I mean, personally, I don't take anything. Not even antibiotics.

But it gets tricky with your children...

Good for you. There may be a rise, but is it very far from being anything like an epidemic and simply using vaccines as the etiology of such an purported epidemic is dangerous and unscientific. It is tantamount to the AGW cult.

One thing that I noticed was my two older kids (19 and 20) had their immunizations spaced out over 5 years and my 5 yo received hers in 3 years. That may be part of the problem.

Too much too soon?
