Truer words have never been spoken. Fix the economy and most everything else fixes itself. So I've been looking into some numbers this morning. Economics is not an exact science, but I'll use generally accepted formulas here.
Mainstream economists use the multiplier effect to determine the usefulness of economic programs. The highest multiplier I have seen is food stamps, which purportedly creates $1.71 for every $1.00 spent. Mainstream (liberal) economists tell us we're fools not to massively increase the food stamp program. We're basically throwing money away! Now, of course, that claim is ridiculous in and of itself, but in doing some research I've found another economic multiplier effect that you all might find interesting... It turns out that exploration and drilling operations in the oil and gas industries create $1.80 to $1.90 of economic activity for every $1.00 spent. And the money that is spent is private money! It costs taxpayers nothing at all! Liberals are constantly bitching about all the cash on the sidelines. There is reportedly $2 trillion in cash not being actively invested in the economy. Well, get out of the way of that money! What the hell? This is not rocket science. The problem is the ideology of the left. They cannot fix the economy, because they cannot give up on their utopian ideals. They cannot submit to practicality and pragmatism. If there is a "party of no", it is most certainly the Democrats. No drilling! No meaningful tax reform! No end to deficit spending! No easing of regulations! I've heard it suggested that the hard left wants to destroy the economy. I don't know if that is true or not, but they are destroying it, nonetheless. They either do not have the knowledge, or (more likely) do not have the will to do the right thing and open up the free market and let it do it's magic. Expect no economic turnaround until these people are gone from power. The free market is anathema to them, and therefore so is prosperity. |

We should be in fat city by nao.. there's more people on food stamps than ever.

I Disagree Will it reduce the 15 trillion dollar debt we are approaching... Sure, the spending needs to stop... But we wont be seeing job creation on the scale that is needed... Its something the federal Government cant and wont get a handle on ! Because the federal government cant create enough jobs, it cant coax them back from overseas... And for people who are still working , it cant force pay increase's that are needed ! Its a myth, a lie ,a fallacy... Obama, Perry, ![]() We are in bigger trouble then the media or the govt is letting on. |

Will that create jobs in the short term in say 1-5 years ? The government is stifling job creation by it's over-regulation. In two ways. If you take energy as an example, we are not exploring and extracting all of our energy resources, which would create jobs, and since we are not extracting, the price of energy is higher, which leaves less money in the pockets of Americans to buy other things that would create jobs. Using food as fuel hurts in the same way. Now food is more expensive, too. We could drop the price of food and energy, our two key necessities, dramatically. |

Don't be such a pessimist. Hell, it was only a few years ago we had pretty much full employment. Subsidize the farmers? The distributors? How do you drop the price of energy? By fiat? |

How do you drop the price of food? Domestic extraction of new fuel and energy sources is needed but I dont see that happening on the scale needed. Even with the Right wing in full control ! Tha magic number being thrown around, to dent unemployment was a around 230,000 jobs created every month... Does anyone see that happening with Republicans in full control...? I dont... I dont see the manufacturing sector or new commercial/home construction taking off... Thats very problematic. |
