Well, that would be ideal... But, politically speaking, it's not going to happen.

I've looked for support for this on both sides of the isle.. and I can't find it.

Nobody wants these programs to end, and the boomers are a very powerful group.

The best grand compromise I can think of is to pay them, and then demonize anyone who wants to spend money on anything else as "taking bread from gramma"
That's one way to go about it. I'd much rather see some enterprising young politicians (who wouldn't mind being thrown out of office) start calling the elderly what they are: The greediest generation of assholes our country has ever had.

They are the wealthiest demographic, but we have to keep paying for them to not work? They get to travel between Wisconsin and Phoenix every year and buy an RV, but I've got to fucking subsidize their income and medical care? I don't give a rat fuck if they all die. Something tells me they'd be just fine, for the most part. Or, God forbid, they'd have to sell their home and move into an apartment, or even worse, move in with their own fucking kids! ZOMG!!!

I'm not going to take it easy on the elderly. I'm going to continue to make them feel guilty publicly as much as I can. They got us into this, but we have to honor "promises" some asshole made 40 years ago? No thanks.

Yeah.. That's true.. They're a generation of locusts.

I had a conversation a couple of times now about "Entitlements" and people don't seem to think we're talking about SS and Medicare... Because they "paid into" those.

It doesn't matter.. The money is gone and they knew it. They watched it go.

What they're getting now IS welfare... They're getting a check, others are getting the bill. That's not how it was "supposed to work" but shit, look around? Everyone knew that was the reality. Why pretend different now?

But, America isn't going to toss them out on the street. At least not the poor boomers. At this point, I'm all for means testing it. If we're going to pay it, pay it to the people who really need it.

When the others whine, just tell them that we all know the score and we've known it for years. It's just welfare now. They blew the money.

I'm for paying it.. to the people who need it, as best we can.. without borrowing.

Cut government to the bone.. Just whack it.. Use the entitlements as an excuse to destroy DC.

Because, although the whole thing was misguided and mismanaged.. I don't really hate granny.

I do hate DC. A little austerity there would do wonders.
