Default The Conservative Mind of Generation X
http://www.firstthings.com/onthesqua...f-generation-x

Unlike previous generations, X-Cons do not necessarily associate conservatism with either the East Coast, the preppie-class, or Republicanism. William F. Buckley, Jr. and George Will may still command respect, but they are considered eccentric curiosities rather than exemplary models of conservative intelligentsia. X-Cons associate such elitism with liberalism and consider the GOP, rather than the Democrats, to be the party of the “little guy.”

As a Gen-Xer myself.. I thought parts of this piece were quite insightful.

I was born in the waning days of the Boomer years. Greatful that I have seen both sides. Recently trying to disassociate myself from Boomers.
He should have pointed out that baby Boomer's selfishness is what created modern liberalism. The Boomer's constant ragging on Gen-X is just a symptom of this selfishness.
Gen-X was described as loafers and kids without dirrection. I bought into it at first, but I know a lot of these people now as they have grown older and disagree.

X-Cons? That sounds about right.

How is Gen X defined exactly? Late 60's to early 80's? That's pretty broad. I guess I'm one as well.

The Baby Boomer generation runs from 1946 to 1964, so they all cover a broad time frame.

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they will have more maturity than their parents. They're still a mixed bunch though and have a lot of liberal tendencies instilled in them.

Yes, but they were when I was there 30 years ago too. Plenty of us were smart enough to shrug off our teacher's liberalism and grow up to prosper though.
Kids are more resilient to that shit than they get credit for. The stupid liberals taught the kids to resist authoruty, then the libs became teachers. Duhhhhh, smart move, Ahab.

I recall watching a documentary about Woodstock with my dad who is in his 70's. He looked at all the Hippy kids smoking weed and puking on each other and said "those people became your teachers." He was right.

PRETTY MUCH.

I HAD ADULT TEACHERS.... REAL PEOPLE.

MOST WERE RANCH WOMEN WHO'D RAISED FAMILIES OR COUNTRY BOYS TURNED WAR VETERANS

WHO KNEW A THING OR TWO.

I DON'T THINK ANY OF THOSE PEOPLE VIEWED SCHOOL TEACHING AS A FULL TIME JOB, LET ALONE AS A CAREER.

I heard Gen X was the smallest generation since 1900s. WE ROCK !!

And no one born in the 80s is Gen X, that is when the bastard generation known as Gen Y began
