Rush is talking about how GREAT it was back in the 80's.. He mentions all the prominent players, especially Newt, and how they were preaching "Conservatism" from the rooftops, and in the House on CSPAN (They were the only ones there... and nobody else covered it. They were literally alone in the house, late at night.. Talking to nobody.) and how he watched it and how excited he was.. and how he was SURE Reagan would be nodding his head from the White House... And he mentions the Heritage foundation and how great they are.. The "gold standard" and so on..

He says all of our problems would vanish if we could just return to the 80's and preach REAL Conservatism!

The problem: It's all bullshit.

Flash forward to today: Newt is sitting on couches with NANCY PELOSI, promising to act, and end climate change.. He's claiming the "Era of Reagan is over" He's supporting unconstitutional insurance mandates.. Which ARE a "Conservative" idea the Heritage Foundation once pushed.. and NOW claims that after TWO DECADES of research, won't work and are ILLEGAL.

We don't need to go back to that dog and pony show.. Because, the truth is: The only reason "Conservatism" ever existed in DC was to enrich major corporations and wealthy, influential individuals.

It's doing nothing for main street.. To the extent that IT DOES benefit Main Street by a nickle, it tosses a dollar to the rich.

When a good scientist is confronted with empirical evidence that contradicts a theory, even if it is a favored theory, he discards the theory.

I can find no evidence that "Conservatism's" primary aim is making Main Street any richer or any more free.
