Default Air Force ordered software to manage army of fake virtual people
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/02/1...irtual-people/

the software would require licenses for 50 users with 10 personas each, for a total of 500. These personas would have to be "replete with background , history, supporting details, and cyber presences that are technically, culturally and geographacilly consistent."

Manufacturing consent?

Though many questions remain about how the military would apply such technology, the reasonable fear should be perfectly clear. "Persona management software" can be used to manipulate public opinion on key information, such as news reports. An unlimited number of virtual "people" could be marshaled by only a few real individuals, empowering them to create the illusion of consensus. ><

I think they have better stuff to do. What they could do to improve themselves is a terrorist detection system, or make bombs more accurate so they don't hurt civilians.

I think they have better stuff to do. I think they should have better things to do..

I mean, there's no use for this except to manufacture consent or dissent and shout people down...

No wonder we have been having talk about cutting the budget. They should know better on what kind of forces they will be facing in the near future.

THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING... THEY OBVIOUSLY NEED MASSIVE BUDGET CUTS.

And look who controls the budget? What I think should go down is adquate research. There is actually no use in them spending all this money. The only programs worth researching at the time aren't that much of a cost. Budget cuts will certainly be adequate.

Colonel, just what are your qualifications for issuing all this information as though it is fact?

I sound like a philosopher, don't I? I issue my information as if it is true from a philosophical way. Right now, they are focused on spending for better quality weapons. They don't have to: they have such an enormous lead over the next closest competitor: Russia. They should be spending on ways to deal with terrorists. In fact, they should learn more about them.

To the end that we can predict every single move they make.

That would be nice, but do you think it is realistic?

I think it is. Our weapons are so effective it limits their options of tactical responses.
