President Obama called on U.S. businesses to do more to help grow the economy, saying that while the unemployment rate is getting better and jobs are being added, the U.S. needs “to get there faster.” “Businesses have a responsibility, too,” said Obama in his weekly address on Saturday. “If we make America the best place to do business, businesses should make their mark in America. They should set up shop here, and hire our workers, and pay decent wages, and invest in the future of this nation. That’s their obligation.” ____________________________ lol! |

A friend of mine lost his job last year as an accountant for a home heating oil company. Some guy in India is doing it now for much cheaper. Is it the company's fault? Maybe, I don't know. The guy in India evidently has a much lower cost of living. If my friend's salary had been slashed in half he would have lost his house, probably downsizing to an apartment, so he's better off on unemployment for now until he can find a comparable position. Who's to blame in all this? I have no idea, I'm not an economist.

I think that's a problem too, John Anthony.. Many conservatives do not. They favor this sort of thing and think it's just splendid economics.
I don't understand that and, frankly.. I suspect they think these people (20% of the country.. I mean, as many people as there are liberal democrats are unemployed or under employed now) will just vanish, or kill themselves on principle. They won't.. and I think it's foolish to act as though they don't exist. Bush's answer was for the government to "re-train" them all... With Pell Grants and what have you. He bragged about it during the 04 debate and Kerry stung him (for one of the few times in the debate) by pointing out that grant application were up because those people no longer had jobs. And it's way worse now than it is then.. It's when the phrase "jobless recovery" started getting tossed around a lot. Now we have tent cities. But this is dangerous on a different level. Obama is making this announcement to the Chamber of Commerce, who's he going to meet with. If you read the piece, he is flatly saying that he wants to toss money at businesses, and he wants them to create green jobs and products. He's not coming off this attack on business or the attack on energy.. He's going full steam ahead, and he expects the Chamber of Commerce to help him. Here's the worst part: THEY WILL!!! They absolutely will! If he's there to throw money at them, they'll take every nickle he shells out.. For anything. No matter how stupid or pointless it is, they'll do it. So now we're really fucked.. We have this "transformational" President with a big check book, and we have a POWERFUL business lobby salivating over it. |

Even Worse Still.. I don't know that Congress has the will to stop him.
1) It has the word "jobs" attached to it.. 2) It has a bunch of powerful interests who want the money behind it. 3) A bunch of our congress are just as sold on this bullshit as Obama is - This narrative that all "green shit" needs is a little boost from Uncle Sam's pocket book! then it will REALLY TAKE OFF and become SELF SUSTAINING! ESPECIALLY, if they give it a little nudge, on the policy side! See? we CAN create new markets by just funding them and legislating them into being! all we have to do is BE SMART! We're so |
