The official estimate from CBS News is based on aerial photographs taken by the same researchers that collected information for Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor rally in August. CBS News estimated that 87,000 people attended Beck's rally, enraging conservatives claiming that as many as half a million were in attendance.

CBS News, who commissioned the only official scientific crowd estimate at both rallies, says that the aerial photograph method has a 10% margin of error meaning the number could be as high as 236,000 or as low as 191,000. In either case, Stewart and Colbert's rally appears to have attracted at least twice as many fans as Beck's.

"US park services estimated 350,000 for Beck's rally."

That's funny because the US Park service stopped estimating crowd sizes about 20 years ago. The ONLY estimate of Beck's rally that involved ANY sort of scientific methodology, was the one commissioned by CBS News. They hired nonpartisan, private company, airphotoslive.com that has previously done similar work for the Dept of Homeland Security.

The same nonpartisan, private company estimated the size of John Stewart's rally using the same methodology.

If you have a scientific objection to the methodology used in both estimates, speak up. Otherwise go back to sniffing glue and making weird grunting sounds while watching video tapes of Glenn Beck.
