TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - A group of teachers filed suit to stop the new state law that could ban some ethnic studies classes in the Tucson Unified School District. The 11 plaintiffs are all ethnic studies educators. Their lawsuit targets State Schools Superintendent Tom Horne and the Arizona State Board of Education. The state legislature passed a law that bans the teaching of Mexican-American studies in TUSD starting in January. TUSD stands by the program, but Horne has made it known he thinks ethnic studies promotes racism. State Schools Superintendent Tom Horne's statement on 'Derechos' ethnic studies lawsuit: Quote: Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne reacted to today's announcement that the Tucson-based Coalicion de Derechos Humanos will file a lawsuit against HB 2281. ‘Derechos' is quoted on its website as calling its opponents "xenophobic", "anti-immigrant", and "divisive"... http://www.stormfront.org/forum/t750039/ they want to make it so you can not defend yourself or your people. |
