How often to do you think people are privileged because of their race or ethnicity? How about yourself-how are you provileged and how do you think people judge you based on your race/ethnicity? I want to read some opinions.

If you win $500 million in the lottery, would that make you "privileged?"
Yes. Would you refuse to accept your $500 million if you won the lottery? No. If you resent the "privileged," yet defend your own privileges, are you then a hypocrite? Yes. -Just some thoughts. Sh*t's just unfair on this earth. If you don't like that fact that being born a certain color is as uncontrollable as winning the lottery, and don't like what you get, go and take your issues up with God. You can leave me out of it. |

i think white priviledge is a myth. less discrimination? definitely and that isn't up for debate imo. but actual being more priviledged is bullshit. i think whats a bigger factor in who is priviledged or not is who has the money. money talks, and it talks alot louder than race does.
i have a hard time believing that a white family collecting welfare and SNAP's living in some shack or a trailer is "priviledged" at all. thats just what they tell people to keep poor folks divided and fighting amongst themselves why those in power profit off their squalor. |

I was near a police patrul one day and I was not stopped but a swarthy MENA-looking guy who walked behind me was. Despite I look like a badass-fucker (which polices can do to), I was appearently seen as having lower risk as being a thief or something than the innocent (?) ME-guy behind me. Or the police maybe just felt like playing a bit with the non-ethnic?

How often to do you think people are privileged because of their race or ethnicity? For examples Russians who lived in Latvia during the Soviet Union, were priviledged because they were Russians . Also Boers and english peoples were priviledged during the apartheid . How about yourself-how are you provileged and how do you think people judge you based on your race/ethnicity? It's not the same for the others in France especially the ones who are from Africa (North-african and Blacks) , Asia and for eastern and southern european who lives here . |

People of some ethnic groups are privillegged, but its not the same privillege everywhere around, even though some patterns are quite worldwide. Is it ok? Its just as it is, as Hilly said. Unfair, but unavoidable.
However, if you come from undeprivilleged group and still achieve something, you can congratulte yourself more than those who had it easier. So it has it perks- provided you are succesfull. If you are not- you can alway blame your bad situation lol all perks Some people tend to think that they are entitled to some things cause they are this or that, but it is I believe either emotional instability, hidden complexes, or just ordinary selfishness. |

I've actually felt like i've been given the tools to succeed in the real world before the concept of race/ethnicity was known to me(good home, good education, home schooled). In many cases this has made me the more favored in job opportunities, networking, scholarships, etc etc. I can speak from experience...And on more than one occasion... I can play the sweet/articulate black/mixed girl card in interviews and be hired on the spot... I outshine my fellow employees, seemingly uneducated afro-descendant fellow interviewees... Especially when they blurt out really stupid things like, "If you hire me, i'm going to steal from the company to give to my friend...But don't worry, i'll give it back(eventually)...I mean, i'm an honest person. I wouldn't take money without giving it back". I come across as the exception to the rule and that works in my advantage.
I've actually never felt disadvantaged racially...But as I always say, it's because i've been giving the tools to succeed. I know that others cannot say the same...I always mention the fact that I was home schooled because socioculturally speaking it's a very important factor. It's what has given me an edge over my peers regardless of their demographics, but especially over those of close to my own demographic. That's certainly made me privileged in certain settings. Not because of race, though, but other factors...Like the fact people can tell by the way I talk and act that i'm highly driven, persevering, blah blah...All that resume header stuff. |
