I'm not surprised that people do, but I'd bet it has more to do with the racist images we've been exposed to as a society. Cuz blacks aren't the only ones who resemble apes/primates.... I've seen white/Asian/Hispanic/etc apes too, lol! And asians look like aliens, lol! |

I think also many ppl in europe does but they dont talk about it. I was watching a program on tv it was about african children and the screen was showing alot of children. My boy friend is british and he automaticly said "like monkey"- and then he immediately realised what he said and blushed and said he was making joke etc, to not seem bad. but he actually automaticly said that because of the thought so. then realised "oh I said this loud" and feel bad about it.
Many asian and white ppl also have features which can be seen similar to apes I think. europeans been effected by "taboos" alot. they make their minds according to what is taboo and what is not in their society also. For example, being anti-semitic (anti-jew) is a taboo in europe so even if they dislike jews they dont show it or make themselves believe its bad to dislike jews. but being anti-islamist is so okey according to society, thats why even if the european consider himself as high social group person, he still wouldnt feel bad to show his feelings about it. because its not a taboo yet. To dislike blacks or associate them with ape is also a taboo in society. thats why, especially high social group white ppl act like they dont do that. but I believe many of them just slaves of society (making their minds according to what society would think about them). But it has advantages too. At least they "pretend" like they are okey with blacks. which makes the lifes easier for blacks. |

Really? They had to do a six year study to find this out? That seems like a big waste of money. The funny part is that the researcher was "shook up" by this?
Stereotypes are usually founded on some form of truth. In this case it is the truth that the majority of the black population have wide set noses, high cheek bones and larger lips... all traits that can be seen in apes... Again... not all do have these features, but a lot do, just like a lot of jewish people have bigger noses, or that asians tend to have slanty eyes... Is this a bad thing? No... does it dehumanize them? no... This study does not show racism, it just shows people have eyes that ******* work. Really now... what's the next study going to be on, if white people associate latina girls with big asses? Oh the horror!!! |

I mean even whites can look exactly like monkeys.. i think its because the study chose apes vs a diverse set of primates... for example look up the probiscus monkey..
