Did you receive Hausa/Yoruba similarities with 23andme and Gedmatch?

No I haven't. But my African spot on McDonalds map was in Western Nigeria, and my old world average was in Northern Niger.

me too. We are very similar then or I guess most Aframs are given those spots on the 23andme map.

What does itmean?

I'm guessing the Nigerian spot is there because most Nigeria is halfway between Senegambia, and Angola. With the bulk of Aframs being mixed between these two African compenents. The pull towards the Sahel is because of the Euro ancestry?

Both of my dots are in Nigeria, basically overlapping each other...but towards Niger. My red dot is on the border of Spain and France...which is surprising to me because of where my family is from.

Really? Lucky...I want to study abroad. Sounds fun.

I've been to Ethiopia and Tanzania before. I really, really, really, REALLY want to go back to Tanzania. I loved everything about it.

I'd love to visit Mali & Senegal, as well as South Africa and parts of North Africa - specifically Morocco and Egypt.

Yea actually I had a high Southern African pull. Is that why I had Hausa and Yoruba segments? My mother had a lower pull by higher Euro ancestry but she had Mandinka and Yoruba not Sahelian ethnicities.

Yeah! Definitely go. I went about 5 years ago.

Random, there are a TON of Indians in Tanzania. When I was there (we were there for a week for a conference for my dad's old company), everywhere I went I saw this HOT Indian guy. His older brother was obviously the DJ at a lot of the functions we had so I'd see him up in the "DJ area" singing along to all these Swahili pop/hip hop music. Cutest thing ever. But there was just never a good chance for me to go and talk to him and I was too chicken shit anyway. On the last night when we were all leaving, he obviously planted himself right by the door where everyone had to leave through and I caught his eye and I'm walking towards him thinking "YES! FINALLY!" and at that moment my dad comes and puts his arm around me and was like "How's my little girl? Did you have fun? Come with me, let me introduce you to someone." Cock-blocked. I was so embarrassed but my dad (because he likes to tease me) would have made a big deal if I told him I wanted to go and talk to the cute guy, so I just let him lead me away. Lol!

Ugh. But he was so hot. He had long-ish brown hair and light green eyes and looked like a Bollywood star. Fond Tanzania memories.

My dad got to stay behind an extra day to wrap up some conference stuff and he got to go to Zanzibar, but since I had to leave earlier I couldn't go. He got me a very beautiful handcrafted bag from Zanzibar that I still have.

Hilarious! That actually happened tome before. My mom and I went to this store and a cute guy from Burkina Faso worked there. I was secretly admiring him and she didn't know so she tells me to practice my Frenchwith him and she's like ' oh boy just say something' and she asks me all these words to translate. He hears her and turns around. He was like oh I didn't know you spoke French. I was like uhhh yeaaa.

Seems he wasn't so cute after I got used to seeing him lol.

We actually stared at each other the whole week and neither of us said anything to each other. Lol! Such punks.

But anyway, I recommend Tanzania. It's a really beautiful and the people are very friendly. I stayed here: http://www.ngorongorocrater.com/. We went to the Ngorongoro Crater and saw lions, zebras, elephants and hippos. Sometimes I forget, having grown up in a city and all, that there are still places in the world that are just wide and open and full untouched nature. I know that my ancestry isn't from Tanzania, but it was very moving to be there. I imagined that my own African ancestors came from places that might not look so different and might have been looking at scenes similar to what I was seeing. I cried when I came home and felt depressed for a couple of weeks afterwards. I think that's why I've always wanted to go back so much. I'd like to maybe apply to go there through the Peace Corps after I graduate.

My SSA is predominately West African so my homecoming would be mainly limited to the western coast and the adjoining desert borderlands (unless I honor my minor Bantu roots and then I would head off to Gabon and the Congo, too). Nigeria would be a given (I'm partially Igbo on my father's side -- discovered this thanks to genetic testing) but given current political turmoil there, I am not so sure if it's a great time. My mother is of partial Sahelian descent -- she certainly descends from a Chadic-speaking people -- and I would not be averse to exploring that area either. Safety first though! Don't expect me to head out there when I hear people are being beheaded in the middle of the Christian-Muslim conflicts like I'm hearing happened in Northern Nigeria. Once the coast is clear and I have the funds, count me in.

I have some Malagasy friends and I would like to visit with them on the island.

That's so cool. Actually Kenya and Tanzania are both facinating to me. Ethnicities from there are my second favorite after Tuareg. I wonder if it could be possible. Maybe not or we would have high E.African pulls.

lol I understand. I'd think you would like to visit Sahelian groups within Northern or Mid Mali and Niger. Making sense of your pull, you Sahelian ancestry may most likely come from that region.

My mtDNA is probably either from northern areas of Cameroon or those two -- Mali or Niger. Outside of direct Sahel ancestry, I am told I could also possibly descend from Chadian descendants who emigrated to the northern areas of Cameroon thousands of years back. No way to know without deeper testing.

Fulani has been the oft-floated suggestion. It's also very likely.

What type of deeper testing? Did those groups come up in 23andme?
