What are the perceptions of beauty in your society, both male and female, and what are some of the physical and personality preferences?

To start it off

Among the Tuareg and Songhai both, there is preference for darker males (dark skinned and dark brown) and reddish-brown/medium brown females.

I've noticed that about most African ethnicities actually, other than the westernized ones the most preferable skin tone for a female is a medium reddish brown complexion, in comparison to a darker skinned male. Dark skinned and light skinned females don't face discrimination, neither one is better then the other to be honest. On the other hand, light skinned males usually face some form of prejudice... they are often seen as weak. Poor me! But I'm not that bad, my skin tone is more of a swarthy complexion.

I've noticed that the Songhai in particular, in addition to other West Africans classify black people into 5 categories...

Northern Maghrebi's and some Tuaregs are referred to as "red", so basically swarthy... but you have to fit a particular phenotype as well. Black people can't be "red", they can be "very light"... but not "red". For example I'm sometimes called "red" and/or "very light", depending on who I'm talking to.

Other than skin tone, high broad cheek bones are preferred on men, round foreheads and clear faces are preferred on women.

Broad shoulders, impressive height (tall), and short hair are also pluses for men.
Small waist, wide hips, fragile upper body, long neck, and long wholly hair are also pluses for women.

Personality wise, men are expected to be aggressive and almost "warrior-like", our women have more freedom to expressive their feelings... but a woman who is "mother-like" is most desired.

Melanin, dark skinned Indians have the same coloring... and some East Asians have a yellowish tint.

Amongst Aframs, I've noticed a similar trend of lightskinned women vs darkskinned men. Some women prefer the liteskinnededs like myself, but not most, and I'm pretty sure that one's due to mainstream influence and the recent resurgence in popularity of lightskins like Drake, Tyga etc. The sistas love it when we rock the 360 waves tho, regardless of tone.

In my country the ideal of beauty is always related to the europen pheotype despite being a mayoritarly mestizo country, it is of course, highy influenced by Holywood.

That's a good question. I've noticed those red eyes amongst Africans and Asians (South & South Pacific Asians). I don't know what it is.

Among Afram men I would say any pretty woman with a nice round behind is considered "fine". The latter part of the sentence is pretty much a requirement. A woman could have a pretty face nice chest and all that, but if she is flat in the back, she is just considered descent or average at most. Tastes very but in General I would say this is true.

Males:

Tall

Clear skin (regardless of color)

Athletic/Thicker body (just don't be skinny)

Attractive face

Thick lips

Females:

Booty Booty Booty!
- and curves (hips, boobs, etc)

Lighter skin; caramel and lighter
-- (dark chicks get love too, but if the 2 are equally matched the fair one will get chosen)
-- (I've noticed many lighter males going after the darker females though. I guess it has to do with contrast)

Can I just ask why you consistently talk about both North Africans and SSA people in all of your posts as if they were the same people. Just because they live on the same continent doesn't mean they share genetics (for the most part) or culture. There are of course influences and infusions, but in general they have little in common and are certainly not the same people.

What are you talking? I mentioned Tuareg and Songhai people, since I'm half Tuareg and half Songhai. This thread is titled "Beauty Preferences Among Your Ethnicity", therefore why I listed my ethnicity's.

Your accusation is baseless. North Africans are a result of admixture between East/West Africans and Western Eurasians. Please show me where have I made North Africans to be West Africans? I wouldn't call West African biocultural influence in North Africa "little".

Light skin? In my honest opinion, the genuine preference with regard to skin tone for women in Africa outside of westernized communities is reddish-medium brown, for example...

Which part of Nigeria are you from? And are you "urban"? I wouldn't be surprised if that is common among westernized Yoruba and Igbo people from southern Nigeria. But that preference is obviously due to relatively recent western social influences.

I know that among the Hausa-Fulani, reddish-medium brown women are preferred over both darker and lighter skinned women.

This may come off as pan-ethnocentric, but imo LatinAmericans in general probably have the largest range of what they would consider beautiful.
