Default Inter-religious relationships
What do you think about inter-religious relationships? I sometimes think these are the hardest relationships, even more harder than interracial relationships with the same religion. By inter-religous I mean two people of two different relgions, or one could be religious and the other agnostic or deist.

By the way the two religions don't have to be completely unrelated, for example a Catholic and a Protestant couple, although both Christian can almost be worlds apart in their views and practices in life.

Has never worked for me.

Ironically, when I was an atheistic teenager the girls I dated were all Christian, but then after I found my faith, the shoe was on the other foot. My longest, but ultimately most damaging relationships were with atheists/agnostics.

I dated a (white) Buddhist and a Jewess, but neither of those really developed into anything serious... so I've come to the conclusion that I'd prefer at least a nominal Catholic.

Religion is very much a culture, especially the Catholic religion at least that's how I view it as I grew up as a Catholic. It's a good thing the Catholic Church has a lot of members, more to choose from...ha ha.

So true.

Northern Europeans (Irish), Southern Europeans, Eastern Europeans (Lithuanians, Poles), Latin Americans, Middle Easterners, Filipinos, Africans, there's Catholics of every color.

No darling, thank Allah swt that a muslim would never marry you. Good news, we have Muslims in nearly every nation on earth, more for me to choose from.

Even if she somehow agreed to marry you (very unlikely), her brothers and father are likely to come and break your legs.

The complications i see:
-Xmas
-Weeding celebration
-Kids religion
-Kids School

Beside that i dont see many problems, i mean unless you marry a extreme religious person which is not recommended at all.
I think i would marry with a Christian woman, but if i fall in love with a Jewish or a Muslim i would marry with her i dont care about religion. I would never marry a Mormon, someone in Scientology, or Evangelist. Pagan girls are the best, a bit strange sometimes but i find the Wicca sexy.

Baptism is pretty important. If marrying a Jew or Muslim, so is circumcision... and dietary law.

I agree. I'm anti-Mormon, anti-Scientology, anti-Jehovah's Witness. Someone would have to leave those faiths for me to consider them.

I don't get why 'traditional' Christians like yourself (and to an extent Sean) hate people like JWs, Mormons etc. I also see dislike of Unitarians and Quakers and other fringe Christian groups. From my experiences, these fringe Christians are quite decent people and have a strong moral compass about them, also full of compassion and understanding of the important of community works.

Generally the best kind of Christian, or even religious people in general.

Because they're not real Christians. They're fringe non-trinitarian cults who don't believe what Christians believe. In the case of Mormons (the second m is silent, btw), they have their own book... which makes them heretics in the worst degree.

I don't hate them. There are plenty of nice Mormons and JW's out there. I just wouldn't get involved with one or ever expose my kids to that heresy.

Christianity then sounds more like a social club to the exclusion of others rather than something used to bring people together and closer to God.

What do I know though-religion is an extention of cliqueish tribalism in most cases anyway.

It's not a matter of being a social club.

Ask any mainstream Christian and they'll tell you that believing the Nicene Creed (and the Trinity) is a requirement, not an option.

All of the old churches, be they Protestant, Catholic, or Orthodox are Trinitarian. It's these modern fringe groups that challenge that view.

Alfieb is speaking blapshemy against the prophet Joseph Smith?

Personally I having my own religion. I have a big rock that I drew a smiley face on with a marker and placed in my yard. I call it Rocklar and I worship it from 6:54 PM to 7:09PM every day, which is always referred to as 'Rocklar Time.' It's a moment to reflect on the values that Rocklar promotes: standing still and indifference. I don't know what dark alley my life would have turned down if it wasn't for Rocklar.

May Rocklar bring you peace and indifference this fine morning, friends.

The polygamist pedophiles Joseph Smith and Muhammad are both rotting in Hell. Nothing I say about them could be any more offensive than the shit they wrote.

Fair enough.

No sir, they are worm food, just like every other dead guy.

But if you feel better imagining them burning that's fair enough.

Well, they've already been recycled in the circle of life a dozen times over, considering that Joseph Smith would be like 200 now, and Muhammad 1,500... so something tells me the worms that ate them were themselves eaten many moons ago.

I didn't say they were burning or suffering. I just said I believe they're in Hell. What Hell consists of is up to one's own interpretation, as there is no firsthand account available.

I come from pretty homogenous country so theres no much chance of conflicts. I always wondered how it is in a country where theres are many nominations. It must be interesting. catholic-jew, methodist- baptist, muslim-buddhist, jew-muslim (lol), hare-kriszna-atheist, does it happen often? I know these kind of mixes from media, its about famous people, but I dont know how popular it is in a real life.

Being agnostic/atheist, it doesn't really matter to me unless they practice something insane or are over-zealous. As long as they don't want to force their beliefs on me, I would be fine. Then comes the issue of what our kids will be. It have to be something that we decide together over a while. I think life would be better if it had more meaning which is what religion is all about, so it could actually be a positive thing.

By the way, I wonder if there are any good studies about whether religious people are more or less likely to cheat in relationships than non-religious people.
