thye do not need it to sruvive, if they are an ethnicity(which many aframs have cliamed it to be) then they can survive in a cultural way, but thye can't come negating their non-white ancestry to protect their black one.
I agree, but unlike PR or Belize, mixed raced people were just thrown into this black category to keep whites white.... even if it meant ppl with more than 1/32 ssa were deemed black... I think it's backwards, but Aframs had no say...

They had no say then, but I do think thy have it or can have it now, this is not the 40s, the US now has even a mixed president, if Obama could get the presidency, they can get rid of the One Drop Rule in my opinion.

Sadly, even he and Halle Berry believe in it...

Then they will be responsible for enduring "White domination"

You see, they transform a colonial an oppresive way into a matter of bieng satisifed off, I just don't understand US minorities in general.

Your concern for us Aframs is heartwarming but we are no more amenable to changing our culture and definitions as you and your people would be to changing yours. White domination, Spanish domination...we all have our problems and your people are no exception.

As someone mentioned, Cassie is a good example of someone who is mixed Black, White, and Filipina. I had a friend like that, and she was not considered black or white, but mixed or unknown.

A half-White half-Asian mix can usually pass as a White by Whites, but a Hispanic Mestizo (half-White half-Amerindian) who identifies themselves as Hispanic/Latino will often be viewed as Hispanic and non-White. Even some pure White Hispanics will be viewed as non-White as long as they identify themselves culturally as Hispanic, from my experience.

Also, non-Europid Caucasoids that are pure White/Caucasoid such as Middle Easterners/North Africans and light-skinned Indids, Iranids, and Turanids are sometimes not considered White due to their cultural and religious differences.

But sometimes I think it's a matter of status be it economic, social, or political status. Since Asians historically are viewed as middle class or higher and as good citizens, then the racial differences are less pronounced, and more acceptable. So a person who is half-White half-Asian, is accepted as White, because the Asian half is viewed as positive. This can also happen at an individual level where someone like Derek Jeter who looks majority White and part Black, can probably be viewed as White, because he's such a positive figure and has high social status.

I express no opinion here because it is not my place to tell mixed people whom they should identify with, but these pictures do look interesting:

Which is why the general public does not view, for example, Keanu Reeves Asian or mixed.
Jumping a little too far there. I always thought Keanu Reeves was well known for being part Asian (Eurasian). He plays the 'white' role in movies but as a celebrity he is known for being of mixed European and Asian descent.

That is not your culture and your definitions, that is the culture and definitions of the dominant white elite on the US and that you trasnformed it into something to be satisfied at, to be more clear.
Second our definitions and culture aren't the colonail ones, if they were like the colonial ones, there won't be black mayors or black candidates to govern PR, I won't even be a graphic designer, but some peasant begging for money in a street.

In my area, this is 'mixed' http://www.teenidols4you.com/blink/A...1284362874.jpg.
She would never be considered a lightskinned Black girl here.

So would I be seen as mixed or light skinned Black in your neck of the wood?

Before I was aware of all the distinctions (and I'm still not, really), people were either white, black, mulatto or Chinese. Lol.

Sounds right, MK. Many Aframs might attempt to pull you into the group and hence the designations so long as you were not speaking Spanish.

so which one would u say I'd be seen as mixed or light skinned black in your city/state? In Miami a lot of AAs have seen me as Afram mixed, like they believe I have one Afram parent and the other one "hispanic".

This one, especially since such mixes are not rare in the more populated areas. Same for me, too.

Jamaicans and Puerto Ricans have told me I look like a mix of Jamaican/PR or Jamaican/DR Jamaicans have also perceived me as Trini and Guyanese A LOT. I am often thought to be Trini by Spanish speaking people and English speaking Caribbean people. I went to Miami Carnival, a SOCA carnival like they do in T and T and I was amazed at how many Trinis are my complexion.

So basically you would be mistaken for FGM SSA-descendant/Hispanic mix or a member of another highly admixed partly SSA-descended population. Very typical identification schemes. People generally try to explain that which they cannot understand or categorize that which remains ambiguous in general.

Yep, like what I've posted just have been my experiences in Miami and South FL since this region is very Caribbean in both the Spanish speaking and English speaking sense. However like JBC said out in Cali they might think I'm Tongan and Samoan....I've never ever been asked that here though lol.

I don't think I ever even met a Tongan or Samoan. Most people in Miami won't even know "what" that is
