Apparently my family were in Norway 1,000 years ago... and then made their way to Sicily... and then to New York... and here I am. ![]() I recently read that Southern Europeans have been migrating since the late 1880's and it was coined "New Immigration" which was the very beginning of the large migration to America which gave rise to a greater diversity of immigrants. Besides America where did your people migrate also? |

Oh, I love Taormina. Spent a lot of time there. Wouldn't want to live there (I prefer the West Coast), but it's gorgeous. Brazil and Uruguay probably got more of the northern Italians. Also, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico. |

My family is originally from Turkey. My grandfather had the choice to move to the Netherlands or Australia. He chose Europe because it's closer to Turkey. My grandparents moved back to Turkey years ago, my parents are planning to move back in 5 years and I think that I will also move back to Turkey in about 5 years.
And my maternal line moved from Siberia to Turkey about 1000 years ago. ![]() ![]() |

Did notice Amsterdam has several different immigrants, I dont know too much about the Dutch immigration history, but I read and hear sometimes.... |

I'm an American and by definition a mutt...specifically a mix of northern European and at least 2 native American tribes (Southern Cheyenne and Powhatan). I can document four distinct groupings in my family via my grandparents on both sides. My mother's father side is a mix of Swede/Finns, Danish and Irish- all coming here in the 1800s. My mother's mother side is old guard English and Scots (here since the early 1600s) and Hugenot French (also here since the 1600s). These groups married natives too.
My father father is a mix of Scots-Irish, English and Alsatian. His mother's side is a mix of English. Irish and Native American. My wife's ancestry is much cleaner 50% Irish and 50% French (both arriving in the US between WWI and WWII). |
