Default European country with most ignorant people?
I don't neccessarily mean the most stupid European country, but the European country in which most people are generally uninterested in academic persuit and prefer mundane conversation over debates of intellectual substance?

Which country would you say has the least well-read people who generally have a very poor knowledge of foreign affairs and a complete lack of interest in anything intellectually stimulating?

You just described 75-80 % of the population of all European countries. However, if you insist on ranking nations, I would say France has the highest percentage of (pseudo-)intellectuals, because they tend to stress the humanities and education in general, while Romania probably has the highest proportion of uncultured people, due to its dense concentration of quasi-medieval peasants.

I tend to agree, unfortunately a lot of the unculture and ignorance is promoted by the MASS MEDIA,and peasants waste their time watching that shit, also as someone said once on this forum people after communism instead of investing in their children they invested in rather useless stuff.

http://www.theodora.com/wfbcurrent/r...ia_people.html

Urbanization is 54%,School life expectancy (primary to tertiary education) is 14 years,Education expenditures 3.5% of GDP (2005). The only people I imagine are doing worse in education are some/most of the south slavs, but they have less population anyway.

I would say Ukraine, Belarus, and many other former-communist countries are worse than Romania and have way more peasants stuck in the middle ages. Romania has produced more intellectuals and innovations than all those countries combined.

You just don't like Romania and Romanians so fuck you and your reindeer-buggering bitterness!

But I guess we will see "which european people like to take a wank in the shower the most?" before the admins cares to ban his IP.

Fuck him if he meant any disrespect,I hope he gets raped by wallons if he did! Anyway I doubt he meant any,but as I said before: It's no good to speak about Eastern European countries as the socio-economic recession after 1989 still hasn't passed yet. Title should have been "most ignorant people in western europe" and obviously it's from where the thread starter is.

Of course I didn't mean any disrespect, I have nothing against Romania, and if you hadn't noticed Unurauture actually agreed with me. The statistics might be a little skewed because of all the gypsies, though.

Its impossible to find a rate of this.

But maybe if you look at factors such as quality of universities in the country, best education, most newspapers per capita and such things we can come close to something.

Some swedish universities are internationally top-ranked for instance.

What kind of a worthless indicator is that? The question was about which country had the highest rate of 'ignorant' people. What percentage of the UK's population has a degree from Oxford or Cambridge?

Well thats true infact, but they still do indicate a healthy educational system, even when they do increasingly take in alot of foreigners, due to increased fees for non eu etc...

The high school education would prob be a better indicator, Finlands high school education is supposed to be superb...conversley they're not known for being disproportionately intellectual ! Or ignorant - but you get my drift...

Uppsala, Sweden (where I was at) ends up in place 62, and is the best nordic university after Copenhagen. Anything under place 100 is top ranked.

East Asia is way ahead of us too.

But that doesn't say much anyway. How many people in the country that have a degree would be a better indicator. Not high school education, how many people remember Math C course after they have graduated from high school? High school is practicly not voluntarly here.

One has to take into account that the current school systems in each country can only indicate the ignorance (or lack of) of the younger generations.

Or like you did in another thread, a well-regarded school close to a school with bad results and people with poor language skills (like newcoming immigrants).

Also in Scandinavia we have something called Kmovux and Folkhögskola where people who quited gymnasium gets a second chance. If we count high school we might have to count folkhögskolor too.

It not a fair question really. It is the ones with the highest per capita income (Lichenstein) who wil be the ones with the least interest in others. But it is those who have the worst living standards (who will also be the ones who will claim to have the most interest in others, to be the friendlist etc) who will be the most ignorent - Brits probably.
