Default Why is Spain so popular with British people?
I can understand why British people holiday their often, as it is by far the cheapest place to go, but I can not understand why some many British people want to move to Andalucia. There are so many European countries that are so much better to live in, and much friendlier than Spain.

They could move to Italy, the South of France, Southern Portugal, Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, etc. All are warm countries that are probably cheaper to move to than Southern Spain too.

Also, I find the French, Portuguese and Greeks are far more pro-British than the Spaniards are. Due to history the Spaniards absolutely hate the British, particularly Andalucians largely because of Gibraltar.

Indeed, the British don't go to Spain for the Spaniards, and your average British person is as contemptuous of the Spaniards as they are of them. Most Brits think Spaniards are a bunch of arrogant twats who need bringing down a notch or two. I won't give my opinion on that.

However, because of all this animosity I don't understand why British people like to move to Spain so much. About 800,000 British people live in Spain and there are so much nicer places to live with much friendlier locals, and also far cheaper to live in.

I guess Southern Spain has become something of a British colony. It's like many Polish go to the UK because there's already lots here, loads of British go to Spain because there's loads of British there.

Hopefully in time us British we be able to declare ourselves autonomous from Andalucia, kinda like Kosovo has become separate from Serbia.

Perhaps we will call it "Comunidad autónoma de Albión"? With English and Castillian as official languages.

You see, Spaniards and British are like cousins, albeit we are the slightly bigger cousin who occasionally beats the smaller cousin up, but otherwise we actually get on quite well.

A British autonomous region in Spain could exist within Spain without upsetting the order of the country. Our laws are similar, our morality is similar, our history is similar, even our languages have distinct similarities. Many British people even look like Spaniards. If it wasn't for the fact some British people like to go around topless chanting at the top of their voices "WHO ARE YA WHO ARE YA", you wouldn't know the difference.

On the other hand, Muslims are nothing like British people. An autonomous Muslim community couldn't exist in the UK without a significant change to the constitutional order of the country. Muslims have different views on morality, a completely different religion, a different legal system, a completely different outlook on life and a completely different view on womens rights.

Such a region could not exist within the UK. However, a British region in Spain could exist very smoothly with little issue.

Sure, why not?
In fact we have already very weird and freaking communities, like Balearics for example…

Salam aleikum my friend… or something like that.

Southern France is also a British colony but it attracts a whole different type of Brits than those settling in Spain. Eventually, it's just a matter of distinction and discretion based on money discrimination : Spain is more affordable.

Also, I think British people consider Southern Spain to be a more laid-back place than Southern France. There is this perception that the French can be stuck up and cold.

Another British colony? Wow, I recall the argentinians very upset about Malvinas/Falklands Islands..

And Kosovo is not an example of a peaceful separation..

The British have Gibraltar already they might as well get comfortable with the rest of Southern Spain. It's nice real estate.
