Default Your opinion on inter-cultural marriages?
This is not so much a discussion on inter-racial marriage, as obviously different races can have the same culture, but a discussion on inter-cultural marriage, in marriage where two people have different languages.

Personally I would never marry a woman whos native language I was unable to speak. I feel if you don't speak that persons native language, you will never really understand the person as well as you could, because essentially that person will be speaking to you through translation. If you both understand each others languages and can use them inter-changeably then that is fine, but if one is unable to speak the others native language then in my opinion it is a bit stupid.

Also, getting to know someone isn't just about them 100%, it's also getting to know their family and how they interact with their family. If the family can't even speak your language, let alone you speak theirs then it is virutally impossible you will ever understand them, they will never get to know you and you will be missing out on a vital part of your partners life.

Like I said, I would never marry a woman whos native language I couldn't speak to at least a proficient level.

I really do not see the appeal in marrying some Thai woman who can barely speak English, let alone me being able to speak Thai.

I pretty understand you on this I myself wouldn't probably bother which a inter-cultural marriage if I couldn't speak the language of the partner I go out with, it would be like a waste of time. I might as well just isolate myself if that was the case.

I met few guys who married people without knowing their native language. They communicate witch each other in English.

I think it's even more interesting, because now they are able to talk, however, their English is not on very high level, I would say something like pre-intermediate. I always thought that when you don't speak with someone in his native language but in English for example, you can't get hole picture of this person, you can't get know him or her really well, just part of them, foreign language creates some limited version of person which is just lack of his/her skills to express feelings. A little bit like on discussion board, you don't know to what user can be capable of, because you get just some censored , well written message. It's easy to be polite all the time when you're only allowed to speak foreign language, it's some kind of invisible barrier between people.

It's interesting how big is this barrier, for example can you be in love with someone, being happy from good relationship and in the same time your partner to whom you're speaking English is trying to sell your kidney in a black market or clean your bank account

But, everything on this world happens
