For real. I was hanging out at home, not planning on playing basketball tonight, but my friend called me around 7 and asked me to come out to the park and ball with him, so I went. There weren't too many people out there today because of the heat and the fact it's Friday, so the game that was going on was a mix of adults and kids. There was this one older guy (late 30s with two kids) who was apparently not from here playing in the game, his kids included.

I wasn't there for most of the game, but from what my friends told me he started off being friendly, but slapped this one fat white dude (a friend of ours) who was playing with us, and threatened to hit one of the kids (not his own) that was playing.

There was a picnic from a church group from Newport News (aka Bad Newz, though these people were obviously not) right next to us, and a couple of them got next with us. Anyway, by the time the game ended, we were all anxious to play him to show up that asshole, but as soon as it ended, he decided to go home. Some words were exchanged on his way to the car, especially with the two Newport News boys, but the situation seemed to have ended when everyone came back to play the next game.


The asshole told his kids to get in the car and started running towards it and pulled out a glock. Now, there's a fenced-in (you can't see through the fence) tennis court in between the parking lot and the basketball court, so nobody on the court saw it right away, but the church group and some of the girls right outside of the courts did and yelled out "he's got a gun" and started booking it. Everyone started running different directions, but we were pretty sure he was looking to get the two Newport News guys. I ran around the tennis fence to make a lap back to the parking lot, but the two guys ran sort of the same direction, unfortunately. Luckily the guy wasn't dumb enough to start shooting, but with all the kids (there's also a park for kids adjacent to the court, with a wooden tent-like structure in between where the church camp gathering was) and the shopping centers right next by, the cops were on the spot real quick. He got in his car and pulled out of the parking lot and got no father than 50-100 ft before a cop car pulled him over screaming at him to put his hands out the window and a dozen marked and unmarked cars (some with plainclothes) were on his ass. Shit turned into quite the spectacle. I'm just glad the asshole got his comeuppance.



TL;DR: Some idiot at a park with kids pulled out a gun and started chasing people before leaving and quickly getting arrested.

I think you may have been slightly excited when you titled this thread as probably the incident was fresh in your head, but no, you did not almost get shot, almost getting shot is when an actual bullet is fired in your direction but misses you.
But yeah, the dude is most probably your everyday common zombie moron, oblivious to any consequences not only in his own life but also his own kids, there are probably many many more people like him (black or white) in the US, I wonder what charges would be brought forth and what he'd be convicted of ? And how exactly did he get to the point from being friendly to slapping the fat white dude in the face in the first place?

It was clear before the incident that he was just a bully. The older brother (still only 17/18) of the kid that he threatened to hit confronted him (they were all playing in the same game), and he backed down, maybe 'cause he said he was from Brooklyn. He also didn't fight the two Newport News dudes even though they gave him ample opportunity. He was just ego-tripping off some macho bullshit, which was obvious to me, but I wasn't going to stick around to test my hypothesis!

We were laughing about him and the whole incident after it happened, but you can bet your ass everyone was running as hard as possible away from him when he started running back from his car. You don't know if he's crazy or what.

No, I wasn't excited, the incident happened at like 7:30, so it was a while ago. I just titled it like that to get more views. It's not really inaccurate (bit of hyperbole), though, the guy was clearly not thinking, and if he shot at those two dudes, I would have been in the line of fire.

I was definitely fearful for my life when I was running, though. It was a bit surreal. I didn't want to run at first, because I didn't think he was really going to do anything, but with everyone else running, it made the threat a lot more real.

Bolded for truth. He's getting charged with assault & battery for sure, and probably some other charges like reckless endangerment. The police weren't too clear. Since he didn't fire the weapon, I'm sure he won't face any attempted murder charges or anything that serious, but the police made it seem like he's definitely going to prison for a while. He fucked up big time with the location he chose to act a fool, because it's a county park with a playground and next to a major town thoroughfare.

As for the escalation, I'm not sure, I wasn't there for most of the game. From what my friend told me, he seemed friendly when he got the game together (there were just people shooting around before that). It wasn't until the heat of the game that he started acting like an asshole, making threats, and being violent.

In my teen years I was the only white guy in a Asian gang called Jr. Blood Gang, we ended up getting in a brawl with two rival gangs, the "Tiny Rascal Gang" and their allies the "Shotgun Crips", anyways when I came out of a car to help assist my friends, who were getting jumped by twice the number of people, some skinny Asian (Viet or Khmer) aimed a gun at me but luckily for me, he had a change of heart and purposely shot over my head instead.

Everyone involved except the fat white guy was black. The guy was about 6'2/3, buff, wearing a Wizards Jordan jersey.
