Everyone knows that beauty is a matter of preference and highly subjective based on each individual yet most of the posters of European descent continue to speak as if beauty is some fix entity despite the fact that beautiful and ugly people exists in all populations. Why aren't people content to just accept reality instead of trying to convince others that what they consider as beautiful is the absolute truth?

People do like usually like to think of anything beautiful as the only reason to someone they really fancy or like, so there definite is a good point you have in front. |

Really? People get the couples that money can buy. That's all the science behind beauty. If you don't have enough money... well, you have to settle with what you have at hand. simple. |

Motherfucker, you're the elephant man as far as I'm concerned. Gonzo. ---------- Post added 2010-07-11 at 19:32 ---------- I read an interesting narrative once about a woman in Malawi who more or less were forced to become mistress of an European explorer and adventurer. Later she described her disgust for his repulsive appearance. She told when she had sex with him it was like a mountain of pale raw flesh rolled upon her (the scene makes one recall scenes of mating elephant seals or walruses). So she indeed did not share the European concept of what is considered handsome or beautiful. duh. ![]() |

Beauty is individually subjective only to an extent. There are a number of universal tendencies.
First, there are innate biological preferences that partly determine whether or not we consider someone to be beautiful; smoothness of the skin, symmetricity of the facial features, etc. Second, our preferences are molded by certain sociological factors. In most world regions, light skin has been coveted since ancient times because it implied nobility and non-involvement in manual labor. On top of that, (most) European features have become popular in the last few centuries due to absolute European world dominance. Third, there is group subjectivity when it comes to beauty. We are hardwired to be attracted to those who look, talk and act like us, while finding other groups peculiar, or even being repulsed by their appearance and customs. If you keep all this in mind, it usually isn't hard to predict who someone will find attractive, and it explains why some people are almost universally considered to be beautiful. |
