Default HUGE ratings for Sunday's games
All season long, the NFL has been breaking records for TV ratings. Championship Sunday was no different.

Both the NFC and AFC championship games earned massive ratings Sunday for broadcast partners FOX and CBS, as millions of viewers watched the Packers and Steelers advance to Super Bowl XLV.

The NFC title game between the Packers and Bears was seen by an average of 51.9 million viewers, which was good for a 28.1 rating. It was the most-watched championship game in the early time slot (3 p.m. ET kickoff) on any network.

CBS did even better in the nightcap as the Jets and Steelers battled for the AFC title. The game averaged 54.9 million viewers, the most ever for a conference championship game. The previous high had been set in 1982 for the AFC championship game between the Chargers and Bengals.

FOX, which is broadcasting the Super Bowl, has to love this. Not only does it get a game between two of the league's best quarterbacks and two of the sport's most passionate fan bases, but the network has to be anticipating a huge rating on Feb. 6.

This past weekend's numbers are also further prove how popular the NFL is in the United States and that a lockout would be a horrible mistake for the players and owners.

meh.

That rating woulda topped the series finale of MASH if Hanie had brought 'em back to beat the Packers. It woulda been bigger than the 'Miracle in Minnesota' in '85.

The ratings were big enough for the world to see the frauds that the Bears ended up being.

A MOST fortunate football team that played a pre season game to get in the NFCCG and when faced against REAL playoff competition, folded and failed to even show up in the first half.

How would you have felt if Hanie had brought 'em back and won the game..??

Would it have been a Packer collapse, or a Bears win??

The fact is he didnt.

And saying the ratings would ve been bigger had the Bears come back is just inserting a hypothetical situation into what was just a news story about ratings for the two games.

I get that the Bears losing to the Packers sucks to you. Why you had to make up some silly 'would ve, could ve should ve' argument for it is just sour grapes.

Fk'ing smoke signals.

Bears fans woulda sent smoke signals from one to another and added to the ratings when many TV's were shut off after the end of the 3rd qtr in disgust.

Buy a GPS device, you're lost.

Don't know of many Bears fans who aren't more disappointed over not having shown up offensively for the first 3 qtr's than are mad about losing to the Fudgesters. I'm pretty sure the hatred by packer fans is deeper than it is with Bears fans in this rivalry.

I'm also pretty sure that most Bears fans went into this one with the mindset that we were already playing with the House's money given the O-Line problems we had to deal with for much of the season.

And yeah, i do think there're folks who turned their sets off as the game moved into the fourth qtr....what was there to watch?? The game was supposed to be over by that time but Hanie actually breathed some life into it for the Bears.

Youre disappointed, and according to you 'many Bears' fans are, because the Bears failed to show up offensively?

That 'vaunted' Martz offense ended up ranked 30th in the league this past season (down from 23 the previous season) and was going up against the 5th ranked defense overall.

Those Bears fans that drew ANY kind of inspiration from the previous weeks' beatdown of the ONLY team more of a mirage than the Bears, are truly delusional.

The Bears were exposed, and exposed themselves, for being exactly what they were all year long. A MOST fortunate team that was stupidly healthy all year long, short of talent at WR, OL and in the secondary, and aging on defense.

Thankfully, all this has added up to talk of Lovie Smith's contract being extended again. And thats just fine by me.

Throw in the starting QB who is no leader, has accuracy problems (along with mechanics problems) and now is SERIOUSLY being questioned as having zero heart and even less passion.

That GPS you think I need, Straw, I will forward to Halas Hall . . . on second thought, I wont.

Who turns off a game that was only 14-0 with a whole quarter left? Oh, that's right bandwagon fans. No matter how far Green Bay is down, I don't change the channel.

you probably dont know many bears fans at all, let alone those that live in Illinois. and where do you get off assuming we own all the hatred? the bears Packers rivalry has been shit on our end for the last 2 decades because we've wiped the floor with you, if anyone hates more right now its the bear fans.

and you think bears fans went into this game ready to lose? what the fuck are you smoking holmes?
