Bharat Electronics (BEL), Thales India and its parent have inked a 3 way JV to produce civil and military radars in India. With Rs 60 crores investment, BEL will pitch in 75% (Rs 40-45 crores). BEL has been producing DRDO LRDE developed Battlefield Surveillance Radar and the Weapon Locating Radar.

BEL’s radars business is around Rs 1,000 crore in a defence-led business totally worth almost Rs 6,000 crore for fiscal 2011-12. In 2009, he had predicted that the domestic radar market would grow to Rs 40,000 crore this decade.
