Respect to the elders is shown in everyday care and consideration that a native Thai accepts as the norm, so would not consider to be anything special.
I come from the England and never cease to be amazed at the respect and care I am shown by the family, my being considered as the elder. Even those unrelated call me Khun Po, and that is respect! It is, as I said, part of their everyday life, being built into the culture and should be something they are proud of. I just hope it is never lost in the country's rush to modernise or westernise! |
