I know it is nice to cool off up there sometime, but I still cannot understand the Thai rush every New Year to go up there and camp out! BRRRRRRR!!
yepp! but as you see, they are obsessed with excessively cold aircon as well, like, 17 degrees? must be the same as farangs going to the beach and boiling in the sun
personally - it's the humidity that makes it unbearable at times.

We humans are pretty good at adapting/acclimating to where we live, don't you think? I used to hate summer when I lived in the north. Now I hate winter. I used to not be able to tolerate the heat in Thailand, now I'm quicker at adapting as it isn't as bad to me as Dallas summers can be.

Default Thai Climate....
On my first visit to Thailand, which was in Feb. Chicagos winter, I was greeted by hot somewhat humid Bkk. air, I stayed 2 weeks, and the every day steady un-changing temps. became some what boring to me, I thought I could never live all my life in climate like that,...and I was glad to return to fresh, chilly Chicago...On my second trip in April I stayed 3 weeks, humid rainy day after day....So I don`t know if I could adopt to a climate like that and live all my life in constant hot weather...I like changes in weather, and temps. I like even cold winter air, and snow...something a Thai can only dream about. As when I told a girl in Bkk. when she asked me how the weather was in Chicago?..and I said it was snowing...she only whispered whistfully..SNOW......So I just wonder are ALL Thais happy with the climate they live in?..My Nooch often complains about too much sun and how it is giving her skin rash on her face, and she must watch her self when going out and wear sunbrella. Do others get problems with hot Thai climate?

many Thais who are used to air conditioning suffer out in the sun, in fact much more than most farangs do.

if you think Thais are obsessed with their skin, visit Taiwan. they fasten huge gloves or mittens on motorcycle handlebars where they can conveniently hide their hands while driving. I haven't seen that in Thailand!

as far as I know there is never snow on the mountains of the north, only dew.
Occasionally some Frost-but certainly no snow.
It snowed in Chiang Rai on the evening of January 8th 1955.

Miss Betti, no I have never been in Taiwan-only flew over it several times....my Nooch often complains that her skin is too dark, and worries if she gets rash break out on her face that she will become ugly and I will not like that way..silly of her...but I guess some people there-as here-have more sensitive skin than others, and I seen how fierce Thai sun can be when I was in Koh Samet, I lay on the beach for only 20 minutes or so, and got sunburned (Sorry for difficulty of reading the text, I meant it to be in nice feminine pink color,...but its hard to see to read it. No more pink texts)

There have been a few good hard frosts the last few years.
My niece was full of it till I showed her what real snow looked like. (Photographs.)

Hey,

I find the Thai climate difficult to deal with at the best of times. Being a Londoner I'm just not used to it. I work in a market and come rain or shine have to stand outside for 11 hours! We can experience temperatures ranging from -5 C to 35 C in extreme cases. My Thai friend hates the hot humid weather, she prefers the winter there (equal to our summers) and is equally amazed by the very thought of snow.

Well, yes Nooch hinted to me several times that in northern Thailand-closer to the mountains-it is not as hot as in south of Thailand, you can even see snow if you go little up those mountains. But those living in Bkk. all their lives....they never experience a nice snow fall...or do they?.....did it EVER snow in Bkk....

depends how have people grown up.
I am a Thai girl who is living here in Wisconsin and I have been cold all the time.
I really miss the tropical climate, 4 months for each season.
I really miss the sun shine and coulorful.
Snow is really pretty, but enough for me now.

I agree with David,...photos do not lie,....and I checked on accuweather.com forecast for Chiang Rai, ccording to this web, temps. drop down to 2 C in early morning hours there, so at those temps it is certainly possible for snow to fall. But as you go higher up the mountains temps. drop even lower making snow very possible. Consider that Mt. Kilimanjaro in heart of Africa or Mt. Kinabalu in Malaysia are covered with snow,...as is Mt. Kilauea in Hawaii and there are snow storms in Hawaii on this mountain and others...

OOoooh, So you are my neighbor here a Wisconsinite?...so you know how cold it gets here...2 weeks ago we, in Chicago had -16 C, I guess it was pretty close for you there as well. But if you stay outside for a while you get used to it, At least I do. So you are right, it depends on where you grew up-in what kind of climate. But you get hot weather here as well, and you know that...in summers we get as hot, or hotter temps than in Bkk. and I live through it,...but I still would not want to live in hot weather like that whole year `round...year after year....Well hang in there 1 more month, and spring will break and then hot Thailand like summer
I fact, I spend almost of my life at rural area in lower north of Thailand, the weather is fine all year round. And you know what????
BKK is one of the top of the hottest city in the world

Yes well I even think Sydney is to hot in Summer, I prefer winter in Sydney, it feels like your in air-conditioning every day.
Last time I came back from Bangkok, I arrived back in Sydney at 6.00.am in the morning, well when I left the terminal to the car par, I was thinking to my self this air is so refreshing after a few weeks in Thailand.

It is a fact that every year people in the north of Thailand die due to the cold weather.
