Seems I did not explain the situation very well. The girl in front of me at the ATM machine had a thick stack of 1000 baht notes in her right hand. Don't know where she got this money from. Probably inside the bank. The girl in front of her said she was going to get 40,000 baht from the ATM machine. I think I'm pretty good at understanding numbers spoken in thai... .Now , in the past, My wife has withdrawn 100.000 baht from this very same ATM machine. It took 5 withdrawals , one after the other.... I watched her do it. A bank supervisor told her that rather then wait in a long line inside the bank;, to get money, to just use the ATM machine. We have also gotten 50,000 baht from another bangkok bank ATM machine.At this machine it took 2 withdrawls to get the 50,000 baht.... ..10 baht fee. The other thai's who withdrew money did it inside the bank. And they put the 800.000 baht inside a paper bag....I've seen a couple million baht given to a custmer at this small bank branch office. inside the bank, over the counter not at the ATM machine. ....... My thought was about the ease at which people were now handling large amounts of cash so freely and easily. They just did not seem to be concerned about security. I kept quite a bit of cash in my wife's bank account while we were there. I usually kept control of the ATM card... About ATM withdrawals........I probably made 25 withdrawls in the 6 months I was there. Guess I was lucky...never had a problem not getting the money from the ATM machine.....Withdrew money from Bangkok Bank ATM's only...
