You are missing the point paul_au. It's not the way that the government deals with things, it's the way they don't deal with it. Instead of focusing on the domestic problems, the government seems to act Thai accordingly and keeps up a good face. It's the hushing and the hiding that starts to actually be noticed by the common man on the street. Finally.
I studied at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, a quite anti government institution to be honest, and we had alot of discussions with professors and doctors about the present state of Thailand and the talk was more or less just like the article concluded. I don't think it is a coincidence that the intellectual elite of Thailand and this article more or less agree. Nevertheless it is very relaxing for me to hear that even "normal" thais, vendors, taxi drivers start to get what's going on. |
