The Madras High Court on Wednesday granted six weeks' time to the Chennai Corporation to take steps for the removal of encroachments on NSC Bose Road here.
The First Bench comprising Chief Justice M.Y. Eqbal and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam was passing orders on a contempt petition filed by K.R. Ramaswamy alias ‘Traffic' Ramaswamy, after perusing the affidavit filed by Chennai Police Commissioner, J.K. Tripathy, and also the photographs produced by the petitioner. In the affidavit, the police commissioner said it was the Chennai Corporation which would issue notices and take steps for removing encroachments on streets and pavements. While doing so, the civic body sought police protection at times. Whenever police help was requested, it was immediately given. It was the corporation which was removing the encroachments. The police could register a case for obstruction of traffic. Source: The Hindu |
