Even though Chennai region has topped the country with the highest pass percentage in CBSE class 12 this year by securing 91.32 per cent, the pass percentage, compared to last year’s, has come down by 0.85 per cent. The pass percentage in private schools has also seen a downward trend from 45.40 last year to 43.16 this year. Releasing the results for the Chennai region on Monday, R. Sundaram, assistant secretary, CBSE (Chennai region), said a total of 7,70,043 class XII students across the country had registered for the examination held in March-April this year, which amounts to an increase of 9.85 per cent over last year. “A total of 63,399 registered for taking the examination in the Chennai region of which 62,587 wrote the exam.
Chennai region with an overall pass percentage of 91.32 per cent has topped other regions in the country,“ he said. The number of students who failed in one subject (compartment) has increased this year from 3,050 last year to 3,595, registering an increase of 0.44 per cent this year. Girls outperformed boys by scoring 93.21 per cent, while the boys scored 89.79 per cent. Separate question papers for visually challenged candidates in subjects like physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics were provided. With the CBSE class XII results out on Monday, the Board has begun counselling process using telephone, interactive voice response system and website to help students and parents overcome postresult related stress and anxiety. In a press release, CBSE said this year 36 principals, trained counsellors from CBSE affiliated government and private schools and few psychologist will participate in tele-counselling to address psychological problems of the students, of which 32 will be available in India while four are located in Dubai, Doha, Qatar and Kuwait. Students can dial toll free number 1800117002 from any part of the country which will give centralised access to the CBSE helpline. While operators will answer general queries, students will be connected to principals or counsellors in case of examrelated anxiety or stress. When the first phase of counselling was launched during the exam season this year, approximately 2,626 calls were received on the toll free number between February 1 and April 13, handled by different counsellors. The figure was much less as compared to last year when 7,333 calls were received during the same time, indicating reduced stress and anxiety amongst examinees, a CBSE official said. - - DC Chennai |
