Default money advice?
Gah..I need to save up alot of money at this time. Before January, Well you see my problem is i need 2000 dollars, and I dont have a job. The job I was suppose to go to isnt hiring anyone at the time because they dont have any holidays for me to substitute in. And the only job I got was either a fast food restaurant (oh gosh no.) or work with my parents, but i dont want to take my parents money. Because I have to work everyday too. Although my other problem is that my Dad takes money from me and hes the parent. And i dont even have a frikking job. I have to pay for my whole kendo thing myself too, im paying for the uniform, but i dont even have enough, their just my savings from my birthday and christmas. And my dad wants me to pay for the equipment, and the membership and everything and thats gonna cost me probably 200 dollars total. (wait til i get bogu wow thats gonna suck for me..) I am so pissed because of this, I need the money, and I need to get my dog to the vet and everything, my dad doesnt want to pay his money to help my dog but shes all sick and everything. Im so mad, I dont want to take money from my parents, or start begging. Can someone help me out please? Dont give me some advice like sell your soul or prostitution...>_>

Stay focused on school, and if Kendo (or clothes, or cars, or...) can't be afforded until later in life - so be it. DO NOT work to have "fun money" and struggle in school because of it.

Most of the time, life is about setting priorities.

I'm totally with Paikea. Think about the that you stay focus in school now... you'll get a nicer paying and easy office job later (I sit around and post stuff during my work hours at work). And you bet I worked hard for this. I don't have rich parents either, I paid for my own college, even the loans were took out from my mom's name; I'm paying them also. Finally I get to do all the stuff I want now, like Kendo, video games *drools*, buy things you've always wanted. And you're even luckier than me, since you have already been practicing and you sound quite young. Practice at home and keep it up. It's never too late to pick up Kendo again late in life if you're intending to go back. Money... I can't give you, but that's my piece of advice

I would definately have to agree with everyone's advice. Sometimes, you have to give up some things in life in order to live. All of us here love Kendo to some degree or another, but we are all faced with the decision on choosing Kendo or good grades/food/utilities/children. If you have to, just take a break from Kendo and concentrate on finding that job.

As for the job situation, while the economy seems to be getting more confident, it's still pretty hard to land a job these days. Since you seem young, you may just have to settle for that minimum wage job cause that is probably the only way you will be able to make money at this point. Just apply for whatever job you can get, even if it is outlandish. Since you need the money as soon as possible, it shouldn't matter the job you get at this point. Once things look better, then you can start looking for a more desireable job. For making some extra cash, if you have things that you don't need anymore, you could sell them on ebay or garage sale.

I wish you the best of luck in solving the money problem and I hope that things look better for you.

First, what do you "need" $2000 dollars for?
Second, if you actually needed the money, then you can work at a fast food restaurant if they have openings. Beggars can't be choosers.

I hate Paikea's recommendation... But it is soooo true. Stay in school. You can learn Kendo when you can afford both time and money.

Fast food joints are the most fun, but I worked at Burger King until I could afford my first car. Then with the car I was able to expand my choices and got a job at a "key making shop" at Sears. Then aventually I started working at a cigar, and pipe store. I saved most every penny I got for school, and when I first bought bogu it was alot harder to find here in the midwest, and lot more expensive. I guess what I'm saying is, fast food worked for me, I'm a better person for working my butt off, and I had wait to buy things. Waiting didn't kill me, just made me appriciate it more. Good luck, and don't write fast food off.

Definitely going to go with Paikea's advice here. I had to sacrifice judo when I was younger so I could do well in school and yeah, I did'nt like it but in retrospect I had to do it. Now that I'm in college I have to be even more carefull. If I've got too much work to do then sometimes I have to skip kendo practice. Really think about your priorities and if it ends up that you have to end up not doing kendo for a while, then that's what you have to do. Do what's best in the long run, not the short run.

I agree with what Paikea said. Life isn't easy. I have to wait till I'm in my mid 20's to start kendo due to money concern. And I once for few months couldn't get a job and I took up an offer to do t-shirt selling for temporary basis. Hell, it was a difficult job for me as I need to stand the whole day and smile the whole day like a dummy and get bullied by supervisors thinking that I have low qualifications in education. It is not a lot, but at least I'm keeping the money roling in rather than full stop. Now I get a job in the office, so I haven't regreat that I took that option. At least I know I'm being paid much higher than those bullies.

Education is very important, don't neglect it. I wished I have the chance to pursue higher learning.

Dont discount fast food as way to make money during your school years. Just dont let it interfere with school and you'll be ok. Hope things work out for you!

Well, i go to college too, and i do kendo, plus i have a weekend job. This means that i usually have no money, because my weekend job doesnt give enough hours, and kendo is expensive. So, i struggle with money, but i dont realy have trouble with school. The only problem is that my dad keeps telling me to get a job cuz im allwasy low on cash and sometimes i have to borrow. But, once school starts up again, my job will pick up and ill have a little bit more money, but still, school is important. And to me, kendo is just as important, but i dont beleive that my priorities are all wrong, i just believe that i should do as well in kendo as i do in school (actually i do much better in kendo than i do in school, but not from lack of effort). Stay in school, and try to do kendo if you can. Try and get enough money just to do kendo and staty in school, you dont need any extra money. Just money for school and kendo. Food is not needed. Hunger is overrated!!! J/P, lol.

LOL, drizzt, you wont believe what i told my parents today. "Dont worry, ill eat top ramen for a while, that way ill have enough money to do what i want" thats what i told them. Top ramen is like 10 cents a meal. Shit, you could live for weeks on like 10 bucks, ahhahhahaah. Why spend a dollar on a burger when you can spend a dollar on 10 ramens.

add some hamerger meat to your top ramen and it makes agreat meal. you can also slice up hotdogs and add that too. you can even add srambled eggs.

oh yeah, i did those also and it stretched the money when times were tight. that and chili dogs. plus you can also add corned beef hash. not all the can at once. if you do it right, a can will last three days.

i would kill to have a fast food job. i have to work on the family orchards every year during picking season and during the smudgepots time. thats terrible work. blazing heat, hard physical labour, during smudgepots, you have to stay up all night to moniter the temperature. the worst is painting the oil burner. heat radiating off of it must be about 135 in that room...

but if you need the money, you have to do what you have to do. people complain too much about working these days. think to yourself when you think you have a bad job, at least im not picking apples and cherrys with Dominic.

you can spend money a thousand times faster than you can make it. thats why i have a bank account. because im too lazy to withdrawl money.

but really, hope you figure out how to make money, stay in school, dont do drugs, wait untill you're married to... well, you get the point.

True. You never really appreciate the flexibility of ramen until times like these. Good luck.
