I have mine in katakana. E-Bogu's embroidery service is outstanding. You have a choice of colors of thread.

Any decent supplier will embroider hakama when you order, it's usually pretty cheap ($20 or so).

The funny thing about kanji is that there's usually a couple different way's to read it so if you end up using Chinese characters I'd say it's all good. I'm probably going to use the caracter for my last name when I get my nafuda but depending on how it looks I might just put my whole name. If someone says something about it, you can always show them who's boss in shiai .

Default Embroidered Name on Hakama
Hello everyone :-)

I would like to know if anyone has got their name embroidered in Kanji on their Hakama and if so what website can you get your Hakama embroided.

I took Mandarin Chinese for a few years so I used the classical characters for my name which happen to be identical to Japanese kanji and when I ordered my keikogi and hakama I supplied a sample as an attachment to my order. It came out quite nicely . Oh yeah, I got mine from bogubag.com.

What about Chinese then? The character next to my username is my Chinese name, is it okay to embed it?

www.e-bogu.com

Go with katakana for non-Japanese names. Please.

If you have already bought you hakama then there are many places in any city where you can get your name embroidered, most seamstresses or tailors can do it. However foreigners are not supposed to have their name in Kanji, there is katakana for that.

That's what I ended up doing. The characters for my name happened to be identical to Japanese kanji so it worked out just fine. Just give them a sample and it should work out.

Oh okay, well, in Japanese I think my name is a guy's name eh? Cuz one of my Japanese classmate back in high school his name was Toshiro and has the same character as mine, and I haven't heard a girl name using this character yet. So educate me In Chinese, it's a very common girl's name, heheh How come my name ended up translated as a guy's name in both English and Japanese? lol Imagine how many people called my house and asked for Mr. Man Lu, bastards Though, it's a nice name in Chinese and Vietnamese
