The mengane thing is popular with many clubs. I'm still bitter about our club logo being ripped off

I like the stylistic one...it looks sharp!

It isobviously inspired by the men grille.

Personally, I'd think it would look cool as a "kamon" on the doh too.

The traditional one is too "busy" looking, IMHO.

The new one would make a good patch, embroidery, etc.

I like it.

Logo No. 2 seems to be very similar to this one:

http://www.kendoka-kassel.de/start.php

The logo is on the right hand side. I like the dynamics of it and I prefer a logo that is simple on not overloaded with information.

Cheers,
dotnet
it sure does, hmmmm makes me wonder now

well it was on the sleeves of the So Cal team members, embroidered , and since the new logo was used in their fund raising, t-shirts, jackets, etc..many people bought them to show support for the Team, since they were worn at the nationals, many people there liked the logo, asked where they could purchase, or trade for, many here would like to see the new logo used for nationals teams, so the argument continues, but it should be finalized at the next board meeting..

Somehow I thought the first logo is too feminin. Trying to tell too much. Second one doesn't mean anything about SC except it only represent Kendo. I don't like either of them. sorry, I may be picky...

The design was made by one of the SCKF womens team members. Though it is a nice design to me, I really like a logo that truly represents what SCKF is all about. The poppy, the (city hall?) tower, etc are some of the things that seem to really tell people what represents So cal the best. Just like you'd find the GG bridge, the koit tower, the napa vineyards, the transamerica tower, silicon valley, etc for norcal.

pfffttt... whatever. socal is LA/SD/SB. pretty much the whole megapolitan area around LA. still represented by LA, the biggest city.

this is from a guy who came from norcal and originally from the east coast.
Well norcal, i thought was everything above Sac down to Salinas.. Fresno, Bakersfield, etc is CC and LA/SB/SD is Socal. pretty much the stuff past the mountains.

The SCKF (IIRC) was founded mainly by Mori sensei and Norcal was founded mainly by Hazard sensei (though I heard Sakano sensei from the pacific northwest region came down to help form it as well).

Scooby says, Rut ro!

"trademark law: an overview

Trademarks are generally distinctive symbols, pictures, or words that sellers affix to distinguish and identify the origin of their products. Trademark status may also be granted to distinctive and unique packaging, color combinations, building designs, product styles, and overall presentations. It is also possible to receive trademark status for identification that is not on its face distinct or unique but which has developed a secondary meaning over time that identifies it with the product or seller. The owner of a trademark has exclusive right to use it on the product it was intended to identify and often on related products. Service-marks receive the same legal protection as trademarks but are meant to distinguish services rather than products.

In the United States trademarks may be protected by both Federal statute under the Lanham Act, 15 U.S.C. §§ 1051 - 1127, and states' statutory and/or common laws. Congress enacted the Lanham Act under its Constitutional grant of authority to regulate interstate and foreign commerce. See U.S. Constitution, Article 1, Section 8, Clause 3. A trademark registered under the Lanham Act has nationwide protection. See § 1115 of the Act.

Under the Lanham Act, a seller applies to register a trademark with the Patent and Trademark Office. The mark can already be in use or be one that will be used in the future. See § 1051 of the act. The Office's regulations pertaining to trademarks are found in Parts 1 - 7 of Title 37 of the Code of Federal Regulations. If the trademark is initially, approved by an examiner, it is published in the Official Gazette of the Trademark Office to notify other parties of the pending approval so that it may be opposed. See §§ 1062 - 1063 of the Act. An appeals process is available for rejected applications. See §§ 1070 - 1071 of the Act.

Under state common law, trademarks are protected as part of the law of unfair competition. Registration is not required. See Unfair Competition. States' statutory provisions on trademarks differ but most have adopted a version of the Model Trademark Bill (MTB) or the Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act (UDTPA). The MTB provides for registration of trademarks while the UDTPA does not. Further protection of trademarks is provided by the Tariff Act of 1930. See 19 U.S.C. § 1526."

Default SCKF Logo
The Southern California Kendo Federation is contemplating a logo change (the vote has apparently been deferred again). Post up your choice after checking out the ones under consideration here.

I have labeled them from left to right (1) and (2).

I also agree with Rainmaker. I think the first logo is a little too busy. I like the simplicity of the second one, but I think it needs something more to identify itself as a SoCal logo.

Seems there was some different info about the designer of the logo at the SCKF meeting last saturday, Her name wasn't brought up as part of the designing,

The old logo is cool, but doesn't represent what So Cal kendo is about anymore, Now that there are 22 dojo's, from Santa Barbara to San Diego, and Diamond Bar to the East, It would have to delete the City Hall part , I'm sure the other cities say we aren't So Cal,

The new one should be for be for Nationals, Worlds Teams, but the same thing would apply, what do you do if a kenshi from say Santa Barbara makes the Team ? He's not from So Cal, so what do you do ?

Obviously my opinion does not matter because I live way up here in Bellevue but my input would be the traditional one. The stylistic one makes it look too mainstream I guess.
