Hmmm...bribe my wife to take up kendo?

Actually, Flykorean, that's not a bad idea...I just have to be creative about it.

I can see it now: "Happy Anniversary, Honey! This is called 'bogu'...here, I'll show you how to put it on...".

My next post will via wireless from my laptop in the doghouse....

So...maybe someone can offer some tips as to how to get their spouse interested in kendo? My wife supports my participation, but I can't seem to get her to give it a shot!

My two year old daughter, by the way, likes to whack me with a little plastic katana (and yes, *she* picked it out at the toy store, not Daddy!). Really cute hearing a two year old shout 'Men!'
My wife gave kendo a real try but she blew out her knee. Two surgeries later she is not about to start again. Kendo's loss, she is a real competitor and has black belts in goju ryu karatedo as well as tae kwando. She would have been great.

My wife and I practice kendo together. I am crazier about kendo than my wife, by far. Not good.

Default Couples Kendo
Hi,

I'm sorry if there is already a thread out there on this topic....but I was curious as to how many couples there are practicing Kendo?

My husband and I started in January of this year (2005) at SF Dojo, Ca. I could not imagine doing this without him. It is so consuming. We talk about it non-stop. Since this is a lifestyle change, I'm glad that we are doing it together.
Please feel free to stop by my humble website

Megan

do we have to be married to qualify?

if not, me and my lover do kendo together. she's the one that got me hooked on it. we try to keep our relationship out of the dojo but occasionally enjoy the treat of kirikaeshi together.

In my dojo there are three couples who do kendo.

One couple met through kendo, one couple decided to start kendo together, and my wife was just starting kendo when we first met.

There are also two sets of father/son kendoists and our teacher's daughters come sometimes.

i dunno her first name, but chan sensei goes to alameda dojo, which is one of miyata sensei's east bay kenyukai dojo. she might go to another dojo, i dunno, but ive never seen her at oakland or berkeley dojo.
Yes, she usually goes to Alameda's Saturday AM ones and is at my Dojo in SF on Monday and Thursdays. She is a great Sensei to work under!

I'm keen for my son to take up Kendo when he can - however he is a bit young at present, 12 weeks... I wonder what age he needs to be before my Sensi will accept him as a student? It will be a few years before I need to worry about that anyway...

In our dojo there is a family of 4 that practice kendo; mum (gokyu) dad (ikkyu), son 1 (shodan) son 2 (ikkyu) There is also another family consisting of mum and 2 sons. It actually helps to create a nice atmosphere.

At our dojo I've got pretty much a whole family doing kendo. A husband, wife, and one of the kids.. the other kid has expressed interest, but due to work and funds hasn't joined yet... "the family that does kendo together ....."

:-)

my dojo has a brand new 'just married' kendo couple hehehe it's even funnier to know they're around the same kendo level... i wonder how do they handle jigeiko with each other after marriage.... ''honey, you don't hit me like that anymore, like when we were just dating' haha

the other day i just asked this hottie kendo girl for marriage but she hit me senseless with the bokuto on the spot. really... kendo girls are so violent.... lol jk.
