I already got a heel protector from e-bogu and have been wearing it. Sensei told me not to depend on it though.
How's it working? Did you get lucky and get one that's not slippery?

Anyway, that's precisely why I never got one until Sensei told me to. I honestly don't like it. I prefer Kendo with nothing on my feet unless I have to. But, in this case, I haven't got a choice. You should forgo that heel protector and just work on proper fumikomi. Use carpet to practice at first so you don't make a mess of your foot, and then, go to a wood floor. Or, use your kitchen floor. Anyway, that is what I'd do... And did.

Oh and I forgot to mention my big bruise on my right wrist after receiving Kote from my sensei... thank whoever invented the "chinese lotion" stuff, it worked like a charm. Bruise gone away in 3 days. Wow... only 3 days?? That's impressive it went away that fast! I'm glad it did.

My toe nail on my left big toe got ripped off when someone did a fumi komi on it! That was memorable. For those of you who want to know...my toe nail has grown back now!

The skin under my big toe on my left foot bleed once while I was in a tournament final. That's probably the only injury I have had from Kendo.

The nastiest I had was from a blister under my right big toe.

I lanced it, it got infected, and became a benign hemangioma. At first, I thought it was just a blister that won't go away....

Had to get it excised....

No fun....

Since writing this, I smashed my right thumb against another kendoka's thumb as we both did men cuts during keiko - apparently both our grips were off at the time of the cut.

Still hurting days later, starting to get concerned...

I got the one that made by e-bogu, they seem to work quite well. I haven't got slip in any form... yet. And it is quite comfortable. Only complaint I have is it doesn't help much... maybe a little bit. I got hurt again last night wearing it. Though, it is not as bad as I didn't wear it.

Right now, I had to use the heel protector or no kendo at all. It's kinda funny last night when I asked sempai about my problem. The look on his face and a weird smile that seemed to tell me "Gambatte!", lol You should hear some of sempai heel stories, it's hilarious.

I also already got rid of my kote's wrist protector unless I get bruise up badly again. Got bruised a little bit again last night. But then again, I got my voodoo-magic-Chinese-loction (that's what my boyfriend calls it).

My dojomate got his thumb's nail ripped off... somehow under Kote... Looks like you should've thank your kendo lucky star for just hurting the thumb, Scott, because it's taking your kendo luck away

These are all very interesting to hear about ... I knew this would make a good-read thread. Toronto crowd there interestingly presented theirs haha (Nagitanagirl ... was that from Kendo or nagitana?) ... but some are just like ouch! Feel really sorry for you guys (especially mr. dcpan) ... I send my special regards. May not so many of these happen to us all.

ha! it's coming Scott! *knock-wood* (lol no i'm just playing)

Mugu ... my mate got me a heel protector from Japan, and it's got this pad at the bottom thats made out of rubber which provides good traction, so it's not slippery at all. The rubber gives the heel extra support as well. Nice stuff; except the downside is sometimes when I want to quickly shuffle suriyashi it doesn't really work with me. Can't win 'em all ...

KendoISB isn't back yet, he's off on an environmental system trip down in the south of Thailand, but he'll be back to tell the stories, all I can let out are two words: 'tailbone' and 'crotch' (I was kinda responsible for the crotch ) but that's all I can say, lol ... save the stories for him
