Please, this is the type of stuff you do when you are totally bored. Couldn't you have done better...

I'm from Canada. I live 2 blocks away from a kendo dojo...blah blah blah... Do you have any advice or which anime videos can help me become better at kendo?
That's the funniest thing I've read all day! Sad thing is, it's not to far from the truth from these "self-taught" types.

I'm from Canada, so there's really no place specialized in Kendo training. I've just been using my basement as the dojo (low budget) and carved a stick that I've seen in an anime (really low budget). Can anyone tell me the main terms used in Kendo (i've read the training section, and I can't understand any of the stuff).

I'm from Canada. I live 2 blocks away from a kendo dojo but cannot afford it so I've photocopied the pages from a Kendo book to teach myself at home. I use a hockey stick as a practice sword. I peek inside through a window to find out how to do things. I also pretend to be a janitor and mop the floors while the students practice. They found out I wasn't the janitor and kicked me out. I've made my own kendo armor out of hockey equipment and old towels. I showed up at the kendo dojo one day and said I was from an out of town dojo. They allowed me to enter until they saw my equipment. I was kicked out, again. I cut up my "Knight Rider" beach towel for nothing!
Do you have any advice or which anime videos can help me become better at kendo?

The club i'm currently with is in a community center in staffordshire. no proper tournaments or gradings, just sparring and some training. its about £3 a session.

I mostly go self-taught and spar against the group, sensei tells me i should go in for 5th kyu, saying im '4th kyu material'
????????????????????
As far as i know there is only 1 BKA dojo in Staffordshire and I run it.
So where are YOU ?

I hate to tell you this tough-stuff, but the kyu grades in kendo start at 6 and go to 1, not the other way round. Its dan grades where the denominating number increases as you progress through them.

I've seen self-taught kendoka get the 69th kyu whithout any effort. Maybe it's because they suck so much.

right... i'll have to ask my sensei wtf
Well, it seems I was right. You don't attend a real Kendo dojo. I thought so. Please quit that "dojo" you are in and run to sjp-sensei's dojo! NOW! Please??

Otherwise, you will be stuck learning absolutely nothing. You are gonna have to re-learn everything.

You CANNOT teach yourself, and you CANNOT be considered ANY sort of Kyu.(Caps just for emphasis. ) And, if you just started, which I suspect, you have no right to even be sparring. You could get hurt(Or hurt someone else) from not knowing how to properly cut, etc, and how to properly wear a bogu.

Where's this "sensei" and who is he so I can yell at him for running a sham dojo?? He needs to be taught a lesson in manners, because he's a liar!

Grrrrrrr.....

Oh, Kaltek-san, sorry. I'll fix my inbox so you can send whatever it is you wanted.

Off-Topic : English is the language that has the most french words in it. I heard Bush (I'm not criticizing (spl?)) wanted to make a something against french, some time ago. Is it true?

@AlexM, savais-tu que les Québécois ont parlé le Français International avant tout le monde (même la France!!!!)?
there was a large backlash when the French took it upon themselves to bad mouth the US.......and stick there nose in american presidential elections. IM not trying to be ugly to our French members, they have a right to there opinions, but that kind of thing does not endear ANYONE to the american public.(Citizen Genete comes to mind). Again, dont start attacking me im making a statement on your Comment. As far as i know there was no "official" movement against french words used in everyday English(Any law against speaking a language would violate the first amendment....). There was the whole freedom fries thing....... But i tend to ignore things like that.

Kaoru, with the way hes been talking........ I have a feeling his "dojo" is a bunch of his LARP buddies who fancy themselves samuri now. Im sorry to cut the rude comment at you expense Kaltek, but your falling into a lovely stereotype.....If you want to break it, we'll sober up and help you, but until you realise what your doing is a joke to the folks practicing in legit dojos and Dojangs, people are going to keep looking at it that way.

Although i have to say illd prefer the backyard samuri to the nut case that was swordteacher. I still have to show our im conversation to one of my proffs....he'll have a good laugh at it.

Don't forget Brazil guys...
there's a lot of kendoka in brazil

Not to mention in canada, there are high amounts of Kendo dojos, but there is a lot of distance in between. He might live in an area where the closest kendo dojo is a half day drive away.

That should read: For your info, Canada and The U.S. have the largest population of kendoka after of course Japan and Korea.

I have no idea if that claim is accurate or not.
Thanks Raiz, if you find others faults in any other posts tell me, I don't see them right away, sometime I still have to translate in my head, and sometimes, it doesn't make sens hehe.

What I should have said is : Canada and The US are, after Japan and Korea (of course) the first to be introduced to Kendo . And I'm pretty sure of that,
Well, I'm not sure (to quote Musha).

You know, I'm not so sure Canada has that high a population of kendoka. I'd be willing to bet that the France has more kendoka than Canada.

This is something that is really tough to figure out though: Do you look at payed memberships or dan grades or tournament participation?

It doesn't really matter anyway.

Well if it's a joke, it's not funny.

For your info, Canada and The U.S. have the most important population of kendoka after of course Japan and Korea.

There's no kendo in Canada?

Man I feel sorry for all those Canadians... They're going to be crushed to find out that they don't do kendo.

Good thing I live in Québec.
