Gun vs. Sword? Gun. The Sengoku Jidai ended because Nobunaga, Toyotomi and Ieyasu all used firearms...after which they banned those pesky Christian missionaries who traded them guns for religious freedom/colonialism and of course firearms became 'dirty barbarian weapons'.

As for the katana cutting a bullet...yeah, it could cut the bullet but then again the two halves would probably fly into both your eyesockets after the impact and the kenetic force of it shatters both your wrists on the inpact on the blade...woohoo
