Once I was fighting this guy in shiai, and we went on for a long time in encho and on and on. I had one jyogai on him so when the opportunity presented itself, I pushed him out of bounds. He told me after the shiai, "That is the only way you can beat me!"

Well atleast you had a way to beat him, because from what it sounds like, he didn't win. So he shouldn't even be talking, really.
