Default Club fundraising ideas?
I thought there was a thread on here somewhere about this, but I couldn't find it.

Our club is trying to raise money to send a team to the Harvard tournament and the PNKF sponsered Women's tournament. We were just wondering what other groups have done and what works and what doesn't.

Raffles, car washes, bake sales are really over done at our univeristy so anybody done anything unique?

Thanks for your input!

An auction, maybe? I dont know what you would auction off, but it might be interesting.

Not useful now with the cold weather. But a long time ago Obukan raised a lot of money with a "free" car wash. This generated cash in two ways. One by donations made at the car wash, and two by pledges collected by our members.

The idea was to get so much pledged per car washed. The big money came when some of our members, started playing their acquintances off against each other. Something like, "so and so (or their company) pledged $0.25 per car, you aren't going to let them out do you, are you?"

It also helps in that Obukan (and now Idaho) is a 501(c)(3), so all donation are a tax write off.

Obukan also did a silent auction, but that event was not well promoted and although we made some money, most of it was from club members buying the stuff themselves.

We still wash the cars and typically can raise $300 in an afternoon...

Don't forget to explore university travel grants and organizational funds that might be available to your club and its students ...

Hope to see you there! Hopefully I"ll go haha. In the past, we've done fundraising through school, like help parking for football games, concession stands at football games, etc, and also we get money from school. Also, we get money from member dues and such.

Forgive me if this seems daft but why not try something sponsored to do with kendo. A 24hr thing, that way you use the purpose of the fundraising to promote it and maybe get some publicity for it too. 24hr's in armour has got to look better to your local newspaper, radio station, TV station, than a dozen guys [or gals] washing cars [no offence to that idea].

Maybe you can't get a venue for that long, probably the biggest stumbling block. But a full club attempting it, taking it in shifts, would be a way to get that team to Harvard I'd imagine. The publicity would help with the cash and maybe bring in new members. Those guys not in the shift could be fielding questions to people popping in to check out what you're doing. Just a thought

Hi Bailee,
Our Scout Troop has done it all, and the thing that has worked best for us is Sonic drive-in. If you contact your local Sonic fast food place, they will allow you to work a fund raiser through them. Your people work as car hops delivering food and condiments. You work strictly for tips, but you can place posters saying what you are fund raising for, and you could wear hakama and keikogi to raise curiosity and interest. We had 12 guys divided into two four hour shifts, and pulled in close to $1200 on a single Saturday.

What's popular right now are "steak nights". There are several local pubs that offer a deal where they provide a cheap steak meal (sometimes there's other choices) that you sell tickets to. You set your own ticket price. Typically here the place charges $8/head, and most people sell the tickets for $15. So you get $7/head profit. Then at the event, you have a silent auction, a 50/50 draw, sell them chocalates or cookie dough or whatever other fundraising products you normally hawk, and all that money is profit. The pub takes the profits from the bar, which is how they get their end of the deal as the meal is pretty much a wash for them. Usually this will be held on a slow night like a Sunday or Monday. I know some organisations can make around $4000 at one of these nights.

So check to see if any places in your area offer similar deals.

24 hours of suburi!

I'd sponsor you for that...
yeah do it like those 24 hour car races,
lets say you keep 2 people doing suburi for 24 hours,
one person cant possible keep doing it for 24 hours so you switch em, take over from each other, just make sure there's 2 people doing suburi at all times, or one, depends on how many people youve got would be intresting to see eating in shifts and all

i helped out at a sponsored pub crawl once
contact the pubs first to see if they will participate
one drink in each bar,
not only do you get sponsors, and you can get more cash by carrying a bucket round, but you get pissed too
