This is what happens when you git hit with Kote too much.
![]() ![]() But seriously. I have noticed that recently my right hand has swelled dramatically, and the top of my hand is now starting to develop a hard tortoise-shell like consistency..I'm thinking..hmmmm. This is odd. Is that a bone? Cartilage? swelled flesh? Sort of like the big bump on the top of my ankle I have from doing a lifetime of Seiza I suppose. My dreams of being a hand model for kitchen soap commercials have been dashed forever. ![]() Anyone else have this happen? |

If you mean that spot just above the wrist, towards the area where the thumb and pointer-finger bones meet, then yes. Whenever I'm hot, you can see the veins on the back of my hands and arms, but not on my right hand, not any more. Its more of a "yellowyish" tint, and my tolerance for pain on that hand has been dramatically increased.

You know Kenzan...
That sounds a little abnormal to me. Kote does hurt, but it should not be affecting you quite that badly. Especially if you can't even tell what the swelling actually consists of. I'm not a medical expert, but I've been around Kendo a while and that concerns me. Maybe you should consider having it looked at and then investing in a kote pad. I've been at this game a long time and I've never had what you are describing happen to me and I can assume that I Motodachi a lot more than most of the people on here do. I don't even wear a kote pad. I used to when I was younger, but I do not anymore. |

Last year I was at physiology class and the professor asked if someone would like to have his sensitive discrimination tested... and he chose to test exactly that are where you hit kote... imagine the results... this is how you do it.
Kenzan, if it´s bothering you, ask for an opinion to an expert, if you have pain, then do it quickly, and be sure that it´s not just a muscle or something like that. |

You know Kenzan... Kote Pad you say? What is that? On the Doctor thing, I am always hesitant to visit him with my Kendo injuries because usually when I describe what I do in Kendo, (Mainly get hit with sticks) he always shakes his head and goes, "Why would you want to do that? It's not good to get hit with sticks..etc"..Anyhoo, it doesn't hurt or anything, It just looks strange. It sort of feels like an enlarged knuckle. |

By the way Kenzan, that has to be the 2nd most disgusting picture I've ever seen. No, I'm not even going to talk about the 1st place picture. |

I have to ask: Was it of a guy with elephantitis of his jewels and he is basically sitting on them like they are those workout balls that you do situps on? I saw it in a medical journal. NSFW! ![]() ![]() |
