Good for them, they're not on the streets smokin' crack or raping children. And I think they may be having fun.

Does anyone on here feel a need to post about the merits of people playing cricket or collecting stamps for their own gratification?

Lets leave these folk alone. It has absolutely no place on a Kendo forum. And before you flame me about it being in the Lounge board, you all know it will be discussed on how it relates to what we do when it in fact has no connection whatsoever.

Only people who study Kendo can touch or play with Swords, or any resonable facimile thereof.
Says so on the contract.

I'm sorry but I'd love to go there with a foam Naginata and take out one of those geeks on stilts. I think it's harmless fun. I wouldn't mind giving it a go.

I posted this because I see trend in "alternate-reality lives." Whether MMO's, Second Life, or live role-playing, there seems to be a significant portion of people who find comfort in escaping.

I was curious as to people's feedback, humorous or otherwise. In the case of this movie, apparently it is a positive view of this hobby.

I went to one of these get togethers. I went to see a few of my friend fight, the combat was crap. the whol eevent was boring. They had a huge dinner and the food was ok. We where not allowed to sit at the table with our friends becuase we where not nights. I guess if I was involved it would have been ok or maybe even fun. The only thing I found amusing was the played a game... You pulled someones name out of a hat, and you had to assassinate them, problem was there was 100's or people so you had to find them all sneeky like. Once you killed them you got there name and ripped yours up. That sounded kind of fun. The combat was crap, kinda like "haha i hit you with my pool noodel in the foot first". more of a towel fight than any real combat.

People have always tried to escape from reality. MMO's are just a new way. Before we had D&D, before that, the '60's. It's nothing new. It's only human to be dissatisfied with your current reality. Everyone has their own way of dealing with it. Some days I'm not happy with the reality of my job so I go to a special little room and hit people over the head and pretend that that is all that exists....I think some people call it kendo.

Which is why you first brought the movie to our attention here
http://www.kendo-world.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14454

However this does not show up in the search anymore, curiously. So I'm confused about the search facility as way to keep threads alive and as a source to contribute to the body of knowledge already contained within the forum.
