Default Numbers in username
Just in recent threads, I read:

sirius1906
dukboy123
garyquinn1704
hl1978
KO1598
ahmed61086

And a lot of other usernames with numbers. I'm not saying that's bad - after all, it's YOUR username - , but it makes me feel strange. It's like serial numbers.
So, why putting numbers in what is basically a name?

It means way back in the day when signing up for Compuserve or AOL, since the name they wanted was taken, (It always was) they were too lazy to choose another.
I mean, back in 1990, I was very proud to be Musashi458256092468093458.

Back in undergrad, we had to wear nametags at our departmental graduation ceremony seeing as our profs had no clue who anyone was. However, because of anonymous grading, what the profs did see while we were there was an 8 digit student number. So, after four years of economics, rather than my actual name, my nametag read: 4748-2933. What was remarkable, some of the professors actually recognized it. :/

I've used numberless names on a few forums, then I ended up with various names and I never could keep track of them so I settled on my name with date of birth for all web activity.

I have no problem remembering useless things but have no luck with owt else.

Hehe, you think?

But it is actually really really tricky since I do not see why you would want to be "RandomWord1929929878" instead of choosing something else. I defend the number in my username by the fact that it actually holds a meaning

You mean before or for the KW forum? For before, I was new to AOL and believe it or not, all of those were taken, except for the last two. hehe. For KW forum, I guess I just entered it out of force of habit. Plus, I have so many accounts and passwords all over the place, I just keep the same username for everything so I can keep the confusion to a minimum.

long time ago, before i was married and i was stuck on computer games and irc chat all night long.. i used to have screen name of pete. then one day i found out there was another person who had pete as screen name and it won't let me log on. so i changed it to pete02. then found out that people were keep calling me pete o'toole.. so i change it to bullet08. since then i kept using that name for internet forums. i have 99 possible way to number it if someone else take up bullet08.
