Default International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day
I know I don't really post here much, I tend to lurk more I hope it's ok me posting this here, but I'd like to bring to people's attention that it is Baby Loss Awareness week this week which ends with International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day on October 15th.

Unfortunately this doesn’t seem to get the same publicity as some of the other “days” throughout the year, something like “national take your granny to work day” probably gets more attention in the media than this subject.

The death of a baby is an extremely traumatic event for the family and seems to be on the increase in the UK. Since losing our Son my wife and I have come into contact with other families who have gone through a similar experience and to be honest it’s bloody frightening just how common it is. However it still seems to be a subject that is only talked about in whispers.

The only thing we have of our lost children is memories and hopefully days like this will not only contribute to preventing the unnecessary deaths of infants in the future but will also raise public awareness of the subject as a whole.

So in memory of all the sleeping angels, that are deeply missed by their loved ones, I would like all who read this to light a candle at 7pm (UK time) on Sunday the 15th to join in remembering those who have died during pregnancy and during or after birth.

Thank you

Spooks

This was highlighted in the North East last year.

One of the local radio stations (forget which) made a big thing of it and interviewed several people about children they had lost including my wife who lost a brother when he was still an infant.

It was quite moving to hear her talk about it quite openly like that, especially when she started to get quite obviously emotional about it.

Good luck with raising awareness

I'll let my wife know, as we've been through both a miscarriage and ectopic. I'm only grateful my wife is still here and we've been blessed with two healthy boys, however much they may make my life miserable in the middle of the night. You don't realise how fragile life can be until something like this happens. Thanks for the information, we'll be thinking of all those affected.

Much Respect here Spooky. This kind of awareness and education needs to be promoted for all of us. A subject which has affected myself and others I am close with. Good luck.
