We've all seen the numpties posting pointless crap to boost thier post count so they can get the all-hallowed avatar.
How about the rest of us? Does post-count reflect usefulness at Kendo World? I don't think so. Many of us use this forum for socialising as much as for JSA and our post counts could be seen by noobs as some type of authority on the forum. Should this be adjusted? One easy way is to not allow posts in the Lounge to be counted - after all, this is where we post nonsense and involve ourselves in debate over films, music and other such subjects. This is already done on other forums such as E-Budo etc. Should our post count only reflect the martial sections of the forum? |

To be very honest, why do we count post anyway? Why do we care, if some n00b wants his super-duper-mega-c00l avatar, let him (or her). But I don't make the policies.
Now about the post count in non-kendo/-iaido/-whatever sections, to be very honest I rather have the KWF numpties post their BS in the lounge than in the topic related sections if they really want to boost their post count. Because they will post their BS in concept sections and you'll get topics like how is the book of the five rings in comparison to the art of war (oh wait, that already happened) so they can pump up their post count. But then again most of the post-count-booster-boys get banned before they have the chance to use their mega cool avatar. |

Yes Doesnt a post about pointless posts make the initial post pointless? Better still, we let the owners of the forum it as they please, because we are only guests and are posting here for free. I just think that a high post count should indicate the amount of JSA-related posts a person makes, not 'what's your favourite film etc' - of which I am also guilty... ![]() |

Every rule you make will cause a reaction, possibly one hadn't planned for. And each reaction you hadn't planned for causes a new rule which the moderator has to enforce which causes more work...
If lounge posts don't count, people will simply add "me too" posts in the other forums, and throw in some extra dots to satisfy the 10 char limit, or just ask dumb questions. The real solution is to simply ignore those posts (or posters) that are worthless. Don't flame them, don't tease them, just move along. Just like in the dojo, you can see someone's skill, without needing to know their rank. sean |

Both post count and 'rep' gives some people a sense of superiority (whether they will admit it or not) and really should be removed.
Fair enough, give an indication that someone has just joined (fixed avatar?), so that other newcomers can more easily filter the information, but apart from that, I think any other kind of outward showing of 'seniority' should be removed...but then, if I was king, I'd also moderate the discussions a lot more and most of the stuff in the lounge (including threads like this!) would be deleted. |

Look realistically I dont think people look to post count when they decide about a person. Personally I look to what the person is saying, and (maybe more importantly) how they are saying it.
If i need more justification I look to their join date, and perhaps their profile. I can honestly say post count and rep does not even enter into the equation. I think that has been become more obvious with the "abstract" discussions/posts and posts counts from some individuals i.e. postcount =/= kendo authority. I guess its a shame in a way as this is a kendo, iaido and jodo forum and the majority of posts are not related. |

One more post on my record
![]() Honestly, I don't view post counts as an authority on any subject - I look at the content of the replies to questions that have been asked. If I have doubts about a particular post or reply, I look at other posts that person has submitted - it's usually a pretty quick result to find out if somebody's inexperienced and pretending not to be, inexperienced and honest about it, etc. I just don't trust that Neil guy . . . his posts never make sense ![]() |
