Because Page is already King.
As for Pratchett... when I were a teenager, i loved his books (Mort, guards guards, men at arms..) but i tried to read one of his more recent ones and i don't know if it was me o the book but i didn't enjoy it enough to read it all... (think it was called "money") Congrats to the man anyways, gave me a lot of joy when i was younger. ![]() |

The thing that gets me about the honours list is that there's the New Years Honours and the Queen's Birthday Honours but it seems like they don't award them at just two events and they seem to be spread through a number of days about the year. Makes sense what with the schedules of many VIPs and the Queen etc. This does give the impression that there's an honours ceremony nearly every month which seems to take away from the 'occassion'. Imagine if you will the Academy awards giving an Oscar away each week, not much of an 'event' is it?
I could be wrong but it just drags on, congrats to the mann though he was my first 'LOL' reading a book. Pyramids, when the head embalmer sees every mummy he's ever made storming towards him because they're a little bit miffed at being denied the afterlife because they're bodies were trapped in their Pyramid tombs. He shouts out something like 'begone foul shades' - it just cracked me up. |

Two thoughts.
Terry Pratchet got his gong for his work with Alzheimers not for writing books (according to the press release) (did you also know that the word 'embuggerance' was first coined by Pratchett?) And I thought I'd share with you what I have been told by a friend after he collected his MBE from Liz herself. One palace staff member told him that many years ago some wag amongst their number 're-designated' what the three main gong acronym's stood for. This is why people REALLY get an award; MBE = My bloody efforts (earned this) OBE = Others bloody efforts (earned this) CBE = Conned bloody Elizabeth (into giving me this) Lee |
