Default Took a lifetime to get here, could take longer to get home
A problem shared.... yada..yada..yada.

After an amazing 3 week holiday in Japan my gf and I are now trapped in a hotel in Narita.
Wow... you are so lucky. i hear you say..well it would be if the travel insurance hadnt slammed the door in our faces as soon as the first Volcanic dust hit the sky. So as it stands we've got to foot the bill for everything. We have seats reserved on a flight on saturday provided the air quality stays the same. That will get us as far as Vienna but we've got no flippin chance of getting our link flight to London, Heathrow.

Anyone else out there having as much fun as us?

Or has anyone got a boat and some oars I can borrow?

Fuzzy

Sorry to hear about that…I know allot of people that got stuck in different part of the world with no means to return home. From what I’ve understood the airlines didn't help them but with one night of accommodation (best case scenario) and the insurance companies don’t cover this kind of situations. The best thing you can hope for is to get the money you’ve spend on the ticked but that’s it.
Also some airlines don’t give you the opportunity to reschedule your flight….on the other hand it seems that the flight ban will be raised regardless the fact that the volcano split another cloud of ash, because the companies loose too much money but I’m not sure that is a good thing since nobody can tell for sure if flights are really safe (although the airlines want to make us believe it is so).
Be careful and good luck!!!

I heard England is setting up transfers via Trains and busses to Spain where the airports are open and they can get you to one of the open English airports.

That's stupid. What's the point of having insurance if they never pay for things in an emergency? It's like they are leeches that suck you dry of money, and the moment they are supposed to pay they bolt.

If you can't get out, then make the best out of it. Enjoy more Tokyo, doing in some Kendo, get a custom fit best bogu from the best bogu shop in Tokyo. You can deal with the money issue later.

I'd offer to put you guys up, but I'm almost an hour outside of Tokyo by shinkansen, so it probably wouldn't be worth it since the dust will probably clear up before it's worth the travel fees...

Pester the insurance companies until they get bored with saying no. It worked a treat when I lost my camera once and they said I hadn't given it the due attention a valuable item needs.

Yep. That's pretty much the definition of an insurance company.

Lloyds of London was originally a betting parlor. People would place wagers on whether or not particular ships were going to make it back to port. Ship owners got to betting against themselves, and the insurance industry was born. Given this origin, is it any surprise that some insurance companies try their best to skip out on their debt?
