Though the arahant has completely eradicated ignorance, he continues to breathe in and out

Bodhi has put himself in a no-win situation.

In arguing the arahant has completely eradicated ignorance & continues to breathe in and out must also mean the arahant has completely eradicated ignorance & continues to be consciousness, continues to have body-mind, continues to have sense organs, etc.

So Bodhi has destroyed his three life-times model.

When ignorance ends, whether or not completely ceasing such as in the fourth jhana, the breathing in & out are not disturbed to such as a degree that they cause the mind to concoct dukkha.

DO simply tells us ignorance disturbs the breathing which disturbs consciousness which disturbs the mind-body. This we can know thru meditation &, importantly, the contrary. When the breathing is calmed, consciousness becomes clear & the mind-body relaxes.
